Love is the panacea for the ills of the world. The inequities of the world may be traced to the divisive tendency of the human mind, the disintegrating propensity that seeks to separate oneself from the world around and thus acquire by fair or by foul means the resources of the world all for oneself which Nature has nurtured for ages in her bosom for the nourishment of all her children. This acquisitive tendency of the human mind is contra-disposed to the principle of higher love as it springs from the idea of mere self-preservation as opposed to collective good which the seeker of the higher spiritual love invariably has as his ideal and end in all of life’s actions. Love is that integrating force that seeks the common well-being. It is that unifying vision of the heart that sees the essential oneness of existence in all that is and thus tends to embrace all in its outstretched arms. Love shares even as it cares, for all of life is the joy of giving off one’s best to the beloved and who else to love but the vast mass of humanity and even the sub-human species for aren’t they also our sisters and brothers ? Feel the bliss of sharing whatever you have, even a smile if you may spare for a hapless soul, a smile full of care and concern that will bring joy and hope to the person. Share the love of your heart by sharing whatever resources you may have, to spare for your less fortunate brother that he may live with dignity. God has given you so much without laying any condition on you. Will you also not unconditionally give a bit for your own sisters and brothers that they may also see the sunshine of life ? The sacrifice you’ll make will be twice blest—it will improve the lot of your brethren and it will spiritually strengthen you. Such selfless activity conducted in right earnest and in the right spirit without any desire for a return will not only be a cause of great social welfare but will evolve you gradually into a great spiritual personality eventually leading you to liberation from the trans-migratory cycle of birth and re-birth. A little bit of virtue practised releases one from great fear. And what greater virtue in this age than the virtue of service to the living mass of humanity in the spirit of divinity, loving action imbued with the spirit of karma-yoga which has as its impelling force love arising out of the perception of the oneness of existence. May all be inspired by the sublime ideal of love ! May all be united in their resolve to do collective good ! May all be imbued with supreme love for the Divine that shines in all and That which seeks the loving service of all !
