We are today the second-most populous country in the world ever closing in onto China who we are expected to relegate to second place in the coming years as we continue to grow at an alarming rate which will surely put paid to all our vaunted economic growth in the long run for economic well-being of the nation surely cannot be divorced from population explosion and its concomitant evils. The solution lies in education of the masses, especially the women of our country. Women's education will empower them to opt for smaller families as opposed to the current situation where the illiterate or semi-literate mother does not seem to have options or intellectual clarity on the matter of family-planning. Our population is soaring, there is widespread malnutrition and under-nourishment and there is the ever-increasing spectre of unemployment and under-employment. Absence of occupation raises criminality in society and we can very well witness its evidence in the fissiparous tendencies in the country as also in the progressive criminalization of politics. Culture is on the decline as mediocrity rules the roost. And all these can be traced to the population growth which is nullifying many a marvellous accomplishment of the nation in the economic field. The solution lies in mass literacy and the spread of culture among the masses so that the teeming millions know they also are individuals with dignity and not mere beasts of burden carrying on the wretched existence called life, that they also have a future, a hope of higher fulfilment and a share in not merely the sorrows but also the joys of life. This is our country, our motherland,our home. Come let us help each other and build it. Jai Hind !
