GANDHI 1 ... 2 OCTOBER, 2013

Patriotism must be humanistic and never a narrow nationalism. This surely is the gospel of Mahatma Gandhi whose birth anniversary we are celebrating today. Humanity is one and archaic concepts of nationalism must give way to evolved humanistic concepts where the whole world is one's country and the entire human family one's countrymen. Geographical boundaries must no longer separate men into conflicting national units nor ideological differences cause polarization in a manner that threatens human existence. These are large issues and Gandhian thought seems most pertinent in so far as their resolution goes. Peace on Earth is the imperative of the hour as divergent forces battle for supremacy casting the very existence of human civilization into peril. Gandhian principles coupled with the humanistic philosophy of Ramakrishna-Vivekananda seems the way out of the current chaos towards a renascent future of humanity. Our humble prostrations at the feet of these luminous beings who may yet serve to be beacons of light in the turbulent times we live in. Come, let us follow the footsteps of these great ones and pay our tribute to the Motherland by flooding the world with such universal ideas as Maitri (universal friendship), Samanvyay (harmony) and Tyag (renunciation). The dissemination of these ideas by self-sacrificing souls who shall live these principles shall be true Indianness and the living standard of enlightened patriotism for the world. Jai Hind !
