MY MOTHERLAND ... 28

MY MOTHERLAND ... 28

The Mohammedan invaders and the European colonists of our motherland are today a part of crumbling history but eternal India rises yet, armed in supernal strength, with vigour undiminished. Such is the undying essence of our civilisation that lives on through how many millenia history dares not peep into. And it is our duty to rise in defence of it with valour befitting the bravest kshatriyas of yore, with intellect of the brightest brahmans and with the fire of the spirit manifested by the greatest sages of antiquity. Unto us is the legacy of eternal India to receive, uphold and carry forward unto the unfolding future.

Photo : Maharana Pratap Singh mounted on his beloved horse Chetak at the battle of Haldighati against the Mughal forces led by Raja Man Singh of Amer, The battle fought in 1576 remains one of the titanic clashes of the Mughals against the lone principality of Mewar which consistently refused subordination and loss of sovereignty like the other Rajput principalities of the day. Although the battle was lost by the Maharana and his capital city Chittaur annexed to the expanding Mughal empire, the Rajput king lived on to battle against the Mughals for the rest of his life, recovering most of his lost territory except Chittaur. But the example of defiant Hindu sovereignty against impossible odds that he left behind has been a perennial source of inspiration for successive generations of freedom fighters, be they royals or the common revolutionaries of a latter day, to wage their wars of liberation of the motherland.
