MY MOTHERLAND ... 40

MY MOTHERLAND ... 40

Swamiji had exhorted the Christians to 'go back to Christ'. It is time the Christian missionaries operating in the north-east heed his exhortation. Their proselytising actions, employing all the dubious means available to man, are not in keeping with the essential teachings of their Master and prove them to be working against the best interests of our country. It is time we realise their real intentions and take affirmative action to resist them and thwart their evil designs.

In a democracy to ban conversion from one religion to another may be deemed a violation of one's freedom to practise and profess any religion of one's choice and, hence, legal stringency in this regard, perhaps, may not be extended to banning religious conversion altogether. But legal procedures may be put in place to prevent the cancerous growth of NGOs converting whole villages in South India to Christianity by offering monetary and positional incentives, that is, bribes. The same applies to the north-east where whole provinces have been converted to Christianity and Hindu religious organisations such as the Ramakrishna Mission and the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission are harassed and hindered in their welfare work by these Christian missionaries. It is the job of the Government to bring in preventive laws and to see to it that they are properly applied so that our national spiritual culture is not subverted in the manner that it has thus far been.

Let Christians the world over learn from the Hindus how to adore and worship Christ the way befitting an incarnation of God. Let them no more deviate from the sublime teachings of the Master, as manifest in his Sermon on the Mount, and make proselytising a matter of political practice rather than spiritual exigency which it never can be. Christianity, by following the universal principles of the Sanatan Dharma, can rediscover its roots in the life of the Nazarene and his message of the soul, interpreted in the awakening new light of the Vedas. That will be Christianity, indeed, and not this proselytising intolerant cult that seeks to subdue other religions through mass conversion to its fold.

Christ has never been truly followed by the succession of his disciples who never quite comprehended him on account of their meagre conception of their Master's massive spirit and what has been the faith professed in his name has ever been the refracted beams of the original radiance that have changed in colour and contour in such irregular spectral dispersion.

Unfinished and expanding ...
