MY MOTHERLAND ... 41

MY MOTHERLAND ... 41

As I see cowards making their 'patriotic' dance, hypocrites making their pretence of patriotism and traitors outright rising up in arms against the motherland, one patriot of preeminence shines through the mist of the ages gone by -- Maharana Pratap Singh. The Maharana of Mewar lustrous looms over the motherland, protecting her freedom, preserving her pristine culture of the valorous kshatriya of yore and harmonising the spiritual civilisation of eternal India in his being. Such a one appears but rare in history and has graced the soil of India to raise the bar of love for the motherland, to defend the dharma and to set up an instance of undying courage, unshakeable will and relentless pursuit of the ideal of freedom to remain as the perennial source of inspiration for future generations of genuine patriots and not caricatures of men steeped in the corruption that is clamorous culture of nationalism.

Amidst the din of the times, when the song celestial of the flautist supreme makes it way with decaying decibel, the glorious exhortation to rise in response to proliferating evil yet sounds soft but clear and Arjun arises to wield the weapons of war to destroy evil. Such a one seeks the guiding light in the ascetic warrior of Mewar who for a period even subsisted on forest grass in diet and in nocturnal rest before returning to the fortresses to continue with the struggle for freedom. The mighty Mughals under Akbar could not subdue his indomitable virile spirit that knew not the infirm's art of surrender and self-debasement. His life was consecrated to the defence of the motherland and he breathed every moment of it to keep her free of the fetters that the barbarous hordes from the north-west of India had forged to foil her sovereignty.

To be continued ...
