What a decline in the standard of Hindustani classical music that one has to tolerate unmusical exhibition of discordant notes by way of national television programme ! What a far cry from the good old days when musicians of talent only made their mark after decades of rigorous riyaaz (practice) and the connoisseurs were there to prevent the proliferation of puerile performance disguising as delectable melody where melody there is none ! What a sad state of the Indian musical culture when fashion takes centre-stage and gorgeous apparel attempts to steal the show in the absence of musical calibre that is worth presentation before the audience ! Indeed, what a plight it is that music has been replaced by the market with its cheap designs of self-publicity, self-propagation and what not ! Mother Saraswati weeps in silence when these are termed her representatives.
