CALLING FOR A CIVILISED DEBATE TO END SPECULATION ... 1

CALLING FOR A CIVILISED DEBATE TO END SPECULATION ... 1

Let us have a healthy debate on the content of this video without being unduly raucous about it. Let rationality prevail in our bid to uncover the truth. I request researchers and scholars like Drjayanta Choudhuri, Madhusudan Pal, Keshab Bhattacherjee, Shankar Kumar Chatterjee, Abhirup Sarkar, Joy Deep and whoever else may be equipped with adequate knowledge to deliberate on this issue so as to clarify conceptions of the general mass of people.

It is necessary to counter the pertinent points in the video in as cogent a manner as the points have been made there so that genuine clarity comes to all and sundry on this issue at long last. Should we fail to do so, it will mean the victory of those who voice the air-crash theory and do so without resorting to verbal violence or disparaging remarks made. Let us also be civil in our mode of acceptance or rejection of the said theory in rational terms and never quite through futile rage or venom spewed on the crash theorists. In this way we have to analyse and go through each and every angle of the case and arrive at our individual inferences. Remember the gregarious instinct will impel us to be irrationally going with the herd which we should desist from and stick to the rational mode based on available documents, data, discoveries and deductions from earlier deliberations.

I have brought up this rather controversial issue for your fair deliberation with every fair intent so that this group dedicated to Netaji and the revolutionaries may not be accused of being one-sided and catering to and promoting only a single narrative. I hope that by this very objective analysis of every possible angle to this case we may be able to carry home the true story of Netaji's destiny in disappearance to the largest number of people as may be witnessing our ensuing debate. In this debate let adversarial and not abusive comments be accepted as part of the intellectual process involved and let argument counter argument instead of emotion and preconception taking precedence in the process.

Foreword by Sugata Bose [administrator]

P.S. : Sugata Bose : @ Madhusudan Pal : In the video, though, Prof. Sugata Bose does argue that DNA is very difficult from a sample of ashes obtained from cremation. Historically, the DNA of the Romanovs was possible because their dead bodies had been buried which allowed the extraction of some amount of body material from the remains later. So, he ruled out the possibility, it would seem, of arriving at any conclusive answer from the DNA test and stressed on the fact that there were six eye-witnesses who had testified to the air-crash and Netaji's subsequent death from it. Dr. Bose reiterated that historians lay a great emphasis on eye-witness account and that the case of Netaji had plenty such witnesses. It is along these lines and many others like the French Files about which he deflected question, that need to be rationally scrutinised and the arguments posited in favour of the air-crash countered effectively.

Sugata Bose : It is unfortunate that there has been no deliberation on the content of this video. It has for all practical purposes then been a still-born project. The Air-crash Theory is still the official line of the Government of India and no one seemed interested in viewing the above video and then proceeding to rationally counter the claims made by the interviewees therein. The programme to advance the rational discourse step by step, stage by stage, thus, seems to have been lost to us for the while and I shall have to patiently await the time when preconceptions on all sides will have given way to reasoned understanding of what surely is India's most vital historical issue of modern times.
