WHY THE ETERNAL QUOTE EVER FROM PAST MASTERS?

WHY THE ETERNAL QUOTE EVER FROM PAST MASTERS?

Clinging to personality has been the undoing of all spiritual movements in the past. It is the principle enunciated by the personality, lived and represented by it, that ought to be the guiding light in our lives, assuming, of course, that we feel the need to take recourse to such guidance in the absence of sufficient creativity and self-confidence in dealing with current situations in the light of our own understanding. This sort of blind worship of the personality does more harm than good to spiritual movements as also to the cause of human development, for the personality, however exalted, represents but a constricted and a fractional view of things seen from a limited perspective of the prevalent times and necessarily limits others adhering to it in future blind following their own perspectives that would have unfolded spontaneously but now stand aborted in a sterile adherence. Originality is thus suppressed in a world of infinite possibilities and the ritualistic routine of holy quotations from the spiritual master's works holds monastics in a growing decadence till a fresher movement supplants the order that thus sees its own demise. This is the folly of infatuation with however holy a personage may be in real or in imagined terms.
