PLIGHT OF THE PANDITS ... 5

PLIGHT OF THE PANDITS ... 5

Who will rally the cause of the Kashmiri Pandits for their safe resettlement in their homeland? The Government of India must take up the issue and pursue it on a war footing as part of its Kashmir Policy.

These Hindus who have been forced out of their homeland en masse amidst mass genocide perpetrated by Islamic fundamentalists must be given back their human rights which have thus far been denied them. I wonder how many of our so-called liberal intellectuals who are so vociferous about alleged human rights violation in the Kashmir valley care about this issue and will lend their voice of protest in this regard as well instead of maintaining their mute.

One voice sounds loud, lending clarity to the entire episode of the exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits in 1991, and that is of Sushil Pandit who is not only erudite on the Kashmir situation but has also been subject to this exodus from his homeland perpetrated by fanatical Muslims there at the behest of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Another such could have been Dr. Karan Singh, son of the last Dogra Maharaja of Kashmir, who has chosen to be rather passive in this regard and, it must be said, has failed the Kashmiri Pandits badly to suffer their plight in refugee camps in Jammu and in exile elsewhere while he has lifelong held privileged positions in non-governmental and governmental bodies including the Union Ministry, positions and portfolios which he has never quite put to any worthwhile use to rendering justice to the displaced Kashmiri Pandits.

This then is the sad tale of the exiled Kashmiri Pandits who till now remain outside of their homeland, full 500,000 of them, and continue to entertain the hope that one day they will be able to return to where they truly belong, where their roots are and where they once flourished despite intermittent Islamic persecution over centuries by successive imperial dynasties. Here they are and we, too, remain passive and mute about their distress. Patriotic we truly are !

Here he lends his robust voice to defend the cause of the Pandits but, alas, it falls on deaf ears. It is victory till now for the Islamic Jihadis against the persecuted Hindus and the rest of India refuses to lend its ears to this and other such lone voices in the wilderness of human inconsideration.
