LET SANITY PREVAIL

LET SANITY PREVAIL

Let sanity prevail at a time when passions can easily rise and commit us into national indiscretion. The nation needs to stand united against all external and internal aggression that threaten its sovereignty even in the remotest possible way. Let there no tolerance for any such act but let hasty measures not be adopted that will compromise the situation further and precipitate a deeper crisis.

The government should proceed with great restraint in responding to the challenges of the times, taking into cognisance not merely the short-term objectives to be achieved by such moves but also the long-term strategic goals that may be aborted in the bargain if hasty erroneous measures are adopted in the melee of things.

The country needs to be calm and television channels must not foolishly exhort the government to go to war with the enemy merely to get TRP out of such clamour. It is the calm and collected mind that arrives at the right decision amidst prevailing crisis and the men in power need to be just that, firm in execution of decisions arrived at in the secure interests of India and the international community.

Terrorism cannot be rooted out by one or more surgical strikes but may be done away with by rooting out corruption from the polity by the enforcement of law on one and all, irrespective of their political clout or industrial reach. Above all, the masses must be made self-aware through liberal scientific education so that they become real men and women who are able to face squarely the challenges of the times. Upon the awakening of the teeming millions depends the well-being of future India.

So far as military options are concerned, it is best to leave it to the men in power and having the know-how, the government and the armed forces, to determine what ought to be the best course of action.

Firm we must be in pursuing a strict foreign policy that takes realpolitik into account as much as it does our traditional ethics and spirituality and amalgamates them in a manner that preserves best our national interests and that of humanity as a whole as well. Once more I say, let sanity prevail.
