''DAR'ST THOU, CASSIUS, NOW
LEAP IN WITH ME INTO THIS ANGRY FLOOD,
AND SWIM TO YONDER POINT?''
LEAP IN WITH ME INTO THIS ANGRY FLOOD,
AND SWIM TO YONDER POINT?''
The Government of India still subscribes to the theory --- fact for them --- that Netaji died in the Taihoku Air Crash on 18 August, 1945. Let the Prime Minister then make a public declaration this year from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Independence Day that 18 August is Netaji's official date of death on which day the Government and the nation will mourn every year the martyrdom of Netaji like Gandhiji's martyrdom is mourned on 30 January.
If the Government of India has hard evidence to prove that Netaji did die on that day, let it put it up in the public domain for the people of India to see and be convinced as well, and then let 18 August be declared and mourned by the nation as stated above.
The question now is : Will the Government of India be able to do as suggested above? If so, well and good, provide proofs and proceed. If not, then with immediate effect let the Justice Mukherjee Commission Inquiry Report be tabled before Parliament for scrutiny and debate following which, if the Government finds on rational basis enough material in it not to reject it like the UPA did, let the Commission be reset and restarted to carry on further investigation into Netaji's disappearance with full governmental support. The UPA had obstructed investigation and arbitrarily rejected the findings of the Mukherjee Commission. Let the present Government exhibit a fairer fibre to allow the proposed Commission all access into secret files, national by permission and international by persuasion and pressure, to come to its definite conclusion in the matter and bring it to a successful closure. Jai Hind!
