It is like a musical tehai putting an end to the Colonial Era. I would be happy if the three could be accepted in your venture as a single move of the Supreme "bhagya-vidhata".Sugata Bose Dear Prithwindra Babu, We will try and bring about your idea to fruition soon by starting a parallel campaign but I am right now not too sure whether we should attempt it right away in the wake of the Rash Behari Bose Bharat Ratna Petition that is doing quite well. But I agree with you that it would been better and a stronger campaign to have begun the way you have suggested here. We will bear this in mind and soon make amends for our earlier lapse. RASH BEHARI BOSE : AN APPEAL TO THOSE THAT ARE COCOONED IN SELF-CONCERN

It is strange that, although, everybody professes to be a great patriot and seemingly espouses the cause of the revolutionaries, verbally as also credibly through real action, yet, they are so laid back in backing the Petition that we have made to the Government of India and do not quite adequately support the cause. This lack of the faculty to combine forces and merely be individualistic in approach in all endeavour is symptomatic of the slave with petty bickering its ultimate objective in this grand terrestrial existence. This lack of organisation is the cause of much of our downfall and it is evident very widely in our society which effectively retards our national progress and keeps us more enchained to the perfidies of the past than the betrayals themselves in real terms do.

Time it is to redress this situation and work collectively for the common good and for the restoration of our pride and prestige in the martyrs to freedom and the revolutionaries of sublime sacrifice. We cannot vouch that we are selfish patriots for that would be a contradiction in terms. One's patriotism must show up in tangible terms beyond all attempts to garner support for personal gain, however camouflaged the endeavour may be. At the end of the day the nation suffers our selfishness and goes down daily into the mire of material misery. We must, therefore, learn to combine forces and help each other in our bid to bring glory to our motherland and never consciously for ourselves, for in the glorification of the motherland lies our individual glory. Such is the substance of the martial spirit which Swami Vivekananda was wont to saying and such ought to be our motto : Sacrifice of the self for the common weal, obliteration of the self for the realisation of the Self.

May the revolutionaries bless us to overcome weakness for it is the weak that seeks self-interest and never the one of supernal strength! Bande Mataram! Jai Hind!

PRITILATA WADDEDAR (TRANSLATION OF ANOTHER AUTHORESS' WORK) ... NOT TO BE PUBLISHED VERBATIM

From the very onset of the revolutionary era many women had been linked indirectly with the movement. The womenfolk of almost every house, mothers, sisters, aunts, sisters-in-law, all these were then connected in one way or the other with revolutionary groups like the Anushilan Samity and the Jugantar. In the early phase of the revolutionary era Swarnakumari Devi, Sarala Devi, Ashalata Sen, Sarojini Naidu, Nanibala, Dukaribala, later, Indumati Devi, Leela Ray, Savitri Devi of Patia Dhalghat, Shanti and Suniti of Comillah, these were some of the patriotic women who devoted themselves to the motherland. Into this tradition of revolutionary movement stepped in the firebrand revolutionary, Pritilata Waddedar.

Pritilata Waddedar, who was a fierce opponent of the British rule in India, was a Bengali revolutionary and the first female martyr to the cause of the motherland's freedom. She was born on Tuesday, 5 May, 1911 at Dhalghat in Chittagong (Chattogram). Her father, Jagadbandhu Waddedar, was the head clerk of the Municipal Office and her mother, Pratibha Devi was busy tending a large household of six children, two sons, Madhusudan and Santosh, and four daughters, Pritilata, Kanaklata, Shantilata and Ashalata. The family surname was originally Dasgupta. One of the antecedents had been awarded the title Wahadedar which in due course of time took the form Waddedar, variantly, Waddar.

Pritilata Waddedar was a close comrade-in-arms of Masterda Surya Sen. Pritilata was admitted to Dr. Khastagir High School for Girls where she performed creditably in every class
