IN RESPONSE TO AVISEK BANERJEE'S POST STATING : ISHWAR HOWA KHUB SAHAJ KINTU VIVEKANANDA HOWA KHUB KOTHHIN (IT IS EASY TO BE GOD BUT DIFFICULT TO BE VIVEKANANDA)

Perfectly put it, Avisek. How easily people pretend to be God but none dares to be Swamiji! And this God-pretence is not just a modern phenomenon. It was evident in pre-independence days as well and in men of no mean merit otherwise. No wonder Tagore had said to Dilip Kumar Roy once, "Aajkaal Avatarer epidemic lege gyachhe.'' (Nowadays, an epidemic of becoming Avatars is on.) Roy could not digest this barbed one aimed at him and protested that the poet was obviously unfairly referring to his Guru, Sri Aurobindo, who his disciples claimed to be the ultimate God working out the total transformation of terrestrial human consciousness. Tagore deftly avoided conflict by saying,''Ta keno, Dilip? Kabimatreyi kicchu bolle jemon Rabindranath ke uddeshyo kore bola hoy na, temni amar ekathao tnake (Sri Aurobindo ke) uddeshyo kore bola noy.'' (Why so, Dilip? If anything is said about poets in general, like it does not, therefore, automatically imply a reference to Tagore, similarly, my words are by way of a general comment and not anything specific to anyone.) The matter apparently ended there, for both Roy and Tagore were civilised people, but the saga continues of Miracle-Babas and Dawa-Babas, Pranayam-Shrees and Unhappy-Gurus, and the public as ever before are eagerly lapping up this nonsensical mischief masquerading as messianic arrival. But as you perceptively put it, though all of these duplicate editions of the Divine dare to pose as Krishna or Ram or Ramakrishna, as I myself have had occasion to witness one very pertinent case related to the fake reincarnation of Ramakrishna, none dares to show up before the public as a Vivekananda. Perhaps, that is the only safeguard we have today to avoid falling into the pitfalls of these dubious devils daring to be gods, or, as in the case of the worst aberration of intellectual arrogance, nay, unwholesome ignorance, to be the ultimate God who is behind all the other Avatars form Buddha to Christ and who has been with his associate silently working out the evolutionary principles since the beginning of creation.

So, Vivekananda none dares to pose as, although, the smarter ones among these otherwise posers use supposed visions of him to further their cause of gaining public approval for attaining the selfsame spiritual status. But, alas! The imitation glows but as the imitation and history avenges herself on these by casting their 'spiritual' status into the dustbin of time even as lesser ones make fresh forays into the domain of the Divine. This then is the state of the common man, duped and deceived by pretenders to piety and propped up by the politicians to serve their perfidious ends while the masses remain oblivious of their own divine selves. Time it to awake to this betrayal by the buffoons, for what else may one who pretends to be God be addressed as, in less than more uncivil terminology, than this? Awake, my countrymen, in righteous indignation of all this idiocy, awake!
