A REQUEST TO ALL ANCHORS WHO OVERDO THE ACT

A REQUEST TO ALL ANCHORS WHO OVERDO THE ACT

Do not destroy a grand oration with superficial thanksgiving and summarising of its content subsequent to the discourse. It completely takes the flavour away from the spiritual atmosphere pervading on account of the talk. This routine observation during a lecture series is patently offensive to a sensitive audience. It betrays a lack of aesthetic sensibility. Kindly desist from such excessive anchoring that nullifies the effect of a lecture.

Once in London Swami Vivekananda gave a powerful speech. Immediately after the lecture Swami Abhedananda announced that there would be a Q and A [Question and Answer] session. The Q and A followed as announced. Later Swamiji chided his brother disciple for spoiling the effect of the lecture he had delivered by calling for an after-lecture Q and A session. Swamiji said, "When I speak to the audience, I give them something solid. You spoilt the impact of the lecture and diluted its effect by calling for the Question and Answer Session thus." Let this observation of Swamiji's be in the minds of all who overdo the anchoring act.
