"I HATE COWARDICE," SAID SWAMI VIVEKANANDA

"I HATE COWARDICE," SAID SWAMI VIVEKANANDA

Swami Vivekananda used to say, "I hate cowardice." A point to reflect on at this hour of critical capitulation before autocratic foreign regimes pressuring us into submission.

Commercial considerations notwithstanding, national image has been lowered and Islamists inadvertently encouraged unto furthering their perfidious cause of subverting Indian democracy. This is not merely regrettable. It is downright shameful. We should have acted tougher even in the teeth of such combined opposition of the Islamic states. They cornered us this time yet again and we stood to apologise for statement of truth, albeit rudely articulated amidst terrible provocation by adversaries in television debate geared to attract rating points by causing commotion.

Television anchors who in nocturnal primetime have reduced civilised debate to roguish ruckus are equally to blame for these unfortunate eventualities.

But free speech is no more. We have just done its last rites by admission of guilt for quotation from Islamic scriptures. Natural justice deems better, though, and it is hoped that truth will prevail over falsity in the court of law.
