WHITHER ALAAP?
Hindustani classical music is alaap-based for it is the way to the Divine. Unfortunately, the modern tendency is to make it taal-based. Swar-sadhana and slow vistaar are the chief features which have now somewhat inadequately been incorporated in the vilambit khayal and independent alaap for a sufficient duration is seldom seen.
