NETAJI --- MAN, MYSTERY AND MYTH ... 1

NETAJI --- MAN, MYSTERY AND MYTH ... 1

It is high time to start concentrating on the historical Netaji's life and works instead of merely awaiting his return to expect which may be a futile proposition in all probability. The country is in great danger of precipitating into anarchy in the not-so-distant future consequent upon its ever increasing population which will be well-nigh impossible to sustain despite the steady growth of the economy. Instead of entertaining foolish hopes of Netaji's return at the ripe old age of 121 and more to give the country direction, we as responsible citizens ought to grow up into political maturity and pull in our weights to direct the nation along the path of prosperity and peace.

Netaji was a seminal personality who had arrived on the world scene at its most precipitous hour when the historical forces were locked in a titanic tussle to shape the destiny of human civilisation. Colonial-imperialism, communism and fascism were at war with each other to resolve the course of history. How Netaji had assessed the then world situation and contributed to the positive resolution of these forces is to studied deeply and the inferences drawn to be implemented in our national development.

Netaji's political, military, economic and social thought need to researched and absorbed into the national mainstream even as his whereabouts post 18 August, 1945 need to be investigated and the mystery of his disappearance solved once and for all. But these are not mutually exclusive endeavours and may be conducted simultaneously. While the common man will be wont to speculating on the mystery part, scholars ought to devote their time and effort to unravelling more of Netaji's recorded life till 18 August, 1945 and bring his thoughts to the fore through literature published in an increasing flow. Then and then alone will the people of this nation get to know the historical Netaji beyond their superficial understanding of him as a mere mystery man and an epic hero of superhuman stature.
