ARISE INDIA ... 37

ARISE INDIA ... 37

To expect world peace is like expecting the predator-prey relation of wild life to cease. Prudent will be to equip oneself in self-defence. The world has not yet evolved to that stage of humanity where the forces of the dark may be trusted to be non-violent and ready for cooperative co-existence with mutual respect and understanding as the basis of such living.

Peace talks are well-meant, perhaps, but non-productive in the end. It is armament still that holds peace and the nation that understands this basic truth survives well. The nation that fails to apprehend this fundamental reality of terrestrial life flounders to lose its freedom.

We have had a supremely civilised national culture from time immemorial, pursuing peace and universal understanding with the lofty wisdom of the Vedas as our national guide but all that we have received in return for such goodness from baser adversarial nations has been territorial aggression, wars, plunder and conquest. Our culture has been subverted, the progress of our civilisation retarded and our religion molested such that vast numbers have been converted to Islam and Christianity while we have never ever ventured to convert other peoples to our faith by force, fraudulence or inducement.

It is time that we as a nation understand the dangers of being unaware of the basic tendency in vast numbers of the people of the world to yet prey on technologically weaker peoples and, thus, equip ourselves effectively not only in the capacity for self-defence but, if necessary, in offence as well to secure self-security from aggressive nations. The warrior-monk is the need of the hour like Netaji was and not mere ascetics lacking the capacity to militarily defend the motherland. Netaji and Swamiji are now our national ideals in so far as personalities are concerned. Gandhiji's non-violence for reasons of realpolitik will not do.
