AWAKE, LEST IT BE TOO LATE!

AWAKE, LEST IT BE TOO LATE!

A new spiritual revolution is necessary. The old ones are dead or devoid of substance or have compromised with the rich and the powerful. The world is sliding along a precipice with environmental problems threatening extinction and a nuclear holocaust ever looming large in the wake of growing global instability. Men of character, come forth and start a new movement that will be universal in outlook, global in scope and based on the principle of the essential divinity of humanity as a whole, not merely preached in principle but actually lived out in one's day-to-day life without compromise with the forces in power or dilution of truth in any manner to suit circumstance. Ramakrishna and Vivekananda still remain our leaders. But we must begin with a new emphasis, not in contradiction with the existing movement but in fulfilment of it by way of lending it a fresh impetus.

The spiritual movements of the day are sapping in vitality owing to the absence of character among their protagonists in most cases and the dilution of the same in the remaining. What is needed, therefore, is a heavy emphasis on character-building through the practice of spiritual austerities instead of merely practising passive piety or engaging in the odd act of charity. All these are welcome but they must be intensified so that the world has a fresh ideal to look up to, a fresh inspiration to draw sustenance from. This is the hour, no further delay will be able to avert a global catastrophe of epic proportions. Harmony has been lost. It must be resettled. Man has created the problems and man alone must solve them.
