He surmounted insurmountable odds to scale the summit of scientific attainment. Restricted beyond repair, he yet rewrote the laws of physics. Nature smiled at such a son of Hers whose spirit no torment of body could diminish nor his soul dim of the light of ingenious intuitiveness. And when the hour came, he departed, just as he had worked, in his motorised wheelchair, head tilted to a side, the spirit long lost to earth and floating in limpid spaces of the other world which he had ever emphatically denied but which for the sake of beauteous reference in reverence we invoke to pay our last respects. Stephen Hawking of epic fame as scientist, author and soldier of the soul, passes away to leave a void that will not be filled.
