I request all of you to read Raja Rammohun Roy's authoritative biography by Sophia Dobson Collett. Such a seminal personality ought not to be relegated merely to the pages of history. His outstanding work for ushering India into the modern age must be brought to the fore more emphatically for the welfare of our nation, now emerging as a leading player in the international arena, a future which Roy must have envisioned two centuries ago as he trod the uncharted path of modernity guided by his instinct, reason and inspiration, by his erudition nonpareil and vision penetrating the gloom of a decadent present unto a flourishing future. If we, Indians, forget our nation-builders among which the likes of Rammohun and Vivekananda surely occupy premier place, we shall not only prove ourselves to be ungrateful but furthermore shall fail to find our real roots in recent history stretching over the past two centuries or slightly more.
