THINK AND THINK DEEP

THINK AND THINK DEEP

I feel happy to see some of my Fb friends studying the Geeta with reverence. They are doing a seminal service to our civilisaltional cause unlike some self-serving carping critics who are selective and shallow in their denunciation of everything that go to bind Hindus in a common bond of solidarity.

Rationality that is deep and enlightening is welcome as a stepping-stone to transcendental truth but to use it to suit petty self-interest that is characterised by pronounced ignorance of the deeper realities of the Spirit is symptomatic of a deathly disease that can only weaken our civilisaltional links. At the same time I find a shallow understanding of the Geeta among the faithful who are apt to taking only the purely dualistic stance on it and rejecting all other philosophical standpoints such as qualified non-dualism and non-dualism itself. Such a soft bigotry does not conduce to Hindu health. What is needed is rigorous rationality that can check such superficial and sweeping conclusions about truths that are profound beyond common conception.

"Let men be thinkers," Swamiji said, and he said it with a depth of vision as to the future of human civilisation. The ancient and the medieval Hindu was a deep thinker. Why must the modern Hindu not follow suit, nay, even foray further, dive deeper into the complexities and profundities of truth?
