TAGORE, THE ARTIST OF ELUSIVE EXCELLENCE

Tagore, it seems, had a highly perforated mind through which diverse streams of thought entered his surface consciousness from his outer environs and the inner recesses of his being, currents of thoughts and feelings, moods and modes that elude not just the ordinary man but extraordinary geniuses as well who remain glued either to their mundane movements of life or to their specific areas of ingenious attainments.

Polymath is a word often used to describe Tagore but it is a misnomer in his case. He was simply a compound marvel of Nature, you could say God's special handiwork to manifest His works, a rainbow of artistic excellence that ranged from the visible spectrum unto the invisible which he brought to focus and light using words and images of rare attributes and, so, lit up the life of man.

We must study Tagore seriously, read him lightly, enjoy every phase of his creation casually and with concentration such that either way we do not lose the charm of it and make a joyous course into a heavy intellectual exercise.

Tagore was multifaceted, multilayered, multidimensional, call him what you will, but you will never catch him in words, master of words that he was. Tagore will delight you, true, but he will ever elude you. The more you discover yourself, the more will you have found an unfolding Tagore within you.
