ENJOY OR RENOUNCE BUT THE MOTHER HOLDS YOU IN THE FATHER

ENJOY OR RENOUNCE BUT THE MOTHER HOLDS YOU IN THE FATHER

When we eat, drink and make merry, we read into the same Brahman as when we analyse and eliminate the unnecessary appendages of life in discrimination on the Self. The difference lies in this -- in the former we add fresh links to bolster the already existing chain that binds the soul while in the latter we subtract the fetters that hold. One is progressive attachment, the other progressive detachment. But both have the Brahman as the substantive base for their field of experience and both are, thus, grosser or finer readings into the Absolute through the film of the Relative (Maya).

All of phenomena is either a movement away from the One or a movement towards it, an attempted expression of the inexpressible in name and form, of the infinite in finite terms. And where the finite dabbles in cosmic experience, it is but a run of the Many on the substratum of the One which is so beautifully encapsulated in the figure of Kali dancing on the prostrate form of Shiva, Maya playing on Brahman.
