In a country of terrible poverty that has reduced hundreds of millions of gods and goddesses to living like beasts of burden, I consider all those who are inordinately rich as the real beasts, for it is their apathy and unconcern towards ameliorating their pathetic poverty is what perpetuates their misery. There is none who can claim to be righteously rich in a world dogged by destitution, for the wealth of the world belongs to all and cannot be claimed as personal possession even if earned by merit and sanctioned by law. The Divine will never forgive such exploitative, apathetic attitude. Surface charity will not do. Absolute dedication towards raising the lot of the poor by fostering the creed of non-exploitation must be the dominant theme of these of stinking riches. Renunciation and service, as Swamiji has exhorted, must be the way. Money must not be allowed to rule man.
