THE KOHLI CAPTAINCY QUIT [FROM AFTER THE T20 WORLD CUP, 2021]

THE KOHLI CAPTAINCY QUIT [FROM AFTER THE T20 WORLD CUP, 2021]

1. Kohli has responded right. He is a man of self-respect and will not allow the Board to play with it. The writing was there on the wall for oncoming events and he has preempted any such dubious move by the BCCI. In this way he has placed the ball in the Board's court and will watch circumspectly how the Board responds. He also safeguards his captaincy in Test and One-day cricket where he was likely to get axed soon after his poor personal performance over the past few months. Virat Kohli is a smart man and will not allow circumstances to get to him later when he will have to merely abide by the dictates of the times. He will rather react to developing situations in advance in a manner that will help save his honour, position and prospective career which in the event of a delayed response has often laid waste the career of many a past player, sparing them neither self-respect nor sustenance of the preeminent position of captain of the cricket team.

2. Virat Kohli's decision to relinquish the T20 captaincy is a smart one. It will relieve him of undue pressure and help him focus on his batting, especially in Test cricket where he would want to leave behind a lasting legacy for sure.

3. Kohli will now return to form with a bang. It is inevitable. Great players seldom languish for long. 55 innings without a century. That lean patch cannot indefinitely continue. It will now end and release the vintage Kohli from behind the shadow. Records will tumble again.

4. Captaincy is an honour but a hindrance to batting excellence as well as history testifies. It has affected many a past player and has now taken its toll on Kohli. Good that he is relieving himself of it. We will see vintage Kohli again. Tendulkar, you will be eclipsed before long.
