SHALL WE BE FORCED TO GET UP BEFORE EVEN BREAK OF DAWN AND PRAY EVEN IF WE ARE NOT MUSLIMS ?

Why must we in Kolkata be subjected to loudspeaker AZAAN at 4.15 a.m.? Is this a theocratic country? Must people be disturbed so in their sleep? What about old people whose sleep is light and are woken up untimely from their legitimate rest? Where are we headed? Why is it that so few protest like I do? Why are people in general not more vocal about this loudspeaker menace at such an untimely hour? Is this not the citizens' duty to protest when their rights are being thus infringed upon? Awake to the menace then.

1. @Abhi Nilotpal : Raise your voice by means of a comment at least and lodge your protest in no uncertain terms if even your voice be feeble and you feel that it will be inconsequential to do anything about this social sonic menace.

2. Electoral politics cannot be allowed to sell our motherland to nefarious forces of intolerance. Our civilisation must be preserved and humanity allowed free rein in all respects. And that cannot be by coercing people into prayerful submission even if they be not willing to comply on grounds of other religious allegiance. The objection is to the use of the microphone and loudspeaker combine and not to the soft call to prayer of the select faithful as such. This must stop. Otherwise, at another time of national crisis this growing menace will assume monstrous proportions and sunder the country again along communal lines. My countrymen, beware !
