THE GREAT ESCAPE

When did Netaji escape from his Elgin Road residence? Was it 17 Jan or was it 11 Jan? And how did he escape? Was it by the car driven by Sisir Bose in the dead of night or was it in the guise of Shardul Singh that he simply walked out of his house in the bright afternoon despite such a tight cordon of plain-clothes security personnel and informers monitoring all movement? There are divergent views on this momentous event of history and I beg to be illumined on it. So, kindly step forward and share your knowledge on this unresolved issue. Raise your questions and your queries, your doubts and your dilemmas, your suspicions and your surmises. They all do the discussion a world of good for they keep it vibrant and alive.
The reason why I have hazarded this post is to seek clarification from experts and clear my confusion about the details of Netaji's great escape. Whenever I have adopted the official version and written a piece, I have been cautioned about the doubts that abound on his escape story and advised to read up on the contrary versions. Being not an erudite on the subject, I have, thus, resorted to information available on the Internet and have come across the above-mentioned Shardul Singh version. The two contradictory versions are so badly conflicting that they have thrown many a reader into a quandary. Hence, my earnest appeal to knowledgeable ones to come up with their clarifications, rebuttals and respective versions of this momentous event in world history.
