SARASWATHI RAJAMANI NO MORE

One more stellar being passes into the historical night. Come, let us prevent such a perfidy and perpetuate the memory of Saraswathi Rajamani. Should we fail, it will be to our eternal shame. This young girl challenged Gandhiji's efficacy of non-violent resistance to British tyranny and silenced the Mahatma by her bold replies to his affirmations on his novel political techniques. She, thereafter, stunned even the great Netaji by her valorous stance, willingness to sacrifice her all and her indomitable spirit so much so that the great man, moved by her attitude that bespoke of unimpeachable patriotism, gave her the name 'Saraswathi' which stuck to her for a lifetime. That terrestrial span is over now and this Indian girl, born and settled in erstwhile Burma, who gave herself to the cause of her country's freedom in a manner that could have shamed the Mahatma for his feeble stance for the same, is now in the sphere where the gods dwell and we who stay behind must make recompense for our neglect of these heroines of the past. May the memory of Saraswathi Rajamani ever shine luminous in the annals of our country that we may call ourselves free citizens of a free land! Else, we must admit that we do not deserve the freedom we enjoy and so take for granted.
