HAIL, THE YOUTH OF INDIA!

A section of the youth in India has through ignorance of their spiritual culture become so tainted with their material compulsions that sanity of reasoning has taken flight from their minds.The result has been that they fruitless dash their heads against the very foundations of their culture with its disastrous consequences. Such has been the legacy of our Anglicised culture post-introduction of Macaulay's Minutes on Education in India and its inertial flow into post-independent India. I feel horrified to witness the abysmal decline in civility of discourse and the sheer proliferation of irreverence among these hapless individuals for elements sublime in our culture which they casually would love to throw away like the baby with the bathwater on account of certain noxious cultural adherents which have crept in our social system as our civilisation has meandered for millenia through the vicissitudes of the times. While there are a lot of these issues of gross human injustice that will have to be addressed as we build our nation of the future where the pristine principles of the Vedanta will find eloquent expression, it cannot but be gainsaid that such a civilisational edifice must be constructed on the already existing millenia-old foundation that has cradled and nurtured the past of our national life. As Swami Vivekananda was wont to saying that the Ganga of our national life has flowed significantly downward for ages and to now try to revert its course backwards would be sheer insanity and productive of our national death. It is, therefore, natural that we should build on the foundations already laid by our ancestors and not try to do anything fanciful on the spur of the moment based on immature misapprehension of our national culture and ethos, for such an attempt will deal the deathblow to our existence as a race.

If the youth sincerely practise brahmacharya (continence) and with shraddha (inspirational reverence) take to the study of their hoary heritage, they will be doing themselves a far greater service and some good to the cause of nation-building as well. Instead of idling away their precious youthful years in caustic criticism of our core cultural considerations with the specific design to attract attention or to show their fruitless frustration at everything worthwhile in our historical past which clearly points to their own incapacity to rise to the challenges facing the nation like fearless soldiers of the soul armed in the conviction of inevitable victory against enormous odds, the youth who have thus gone awry in their life's direction ought to reconsider their own failings to be worthy inheritors of their legacy and ought to forthwith rectify their life's misdirected flow. In such a remodelling of their bent vision will the knots of their heart be cut asunder and their doubts dispelled in the renewed understanding of their heritage. May those among the youth of India who have thus been perverted from their pristine course of self-awakening consequent on the influences that youth, impressionable as it is, is subject to, awake to the study of the mother language, Sanskrit, which is the repository of all that is good and grand in our ancient spiritual culture and which needs our attention today like never before for the very survival of the human race!
