VIBRATION THAT IS LIFE

VIBRATION THAT IS LIFE

Vibration is life. Vibration transforms personality. Sāttvik vibrations are the core content of spirituality. They transform society. The fallen are lifted as God descends into human clay to raise the collective consciousness of humanity. This is the purpose of the descent, this the mission of the Divine. The Avatar in his boundless mercy becomes one of us to redeem us. His love is of pure sattva and is the solvent for our hardened crust-consciousness which dissolves at its benign touch. The resolution thus reached is the evolved spiritual current that directs humanity along the divine channel, plumbing spiritual depths hitherto forgotten, now rediscovered and traversed in. The Avatar's work is subtle and acts in the subliminal consciousness of man, effecting changes that are unseen, yet whose myriad manifestations in the diverse walks of life usher in a new age. And all this is vibrational transformation, the sattva acting on rajas and tamas to resolve the rise unto higher heights, deeper depths. Such is the path of 'Yugadharmasangsthāpan', the establishment of the spiritual-ethical code of the Age. It is vibration all the way. 🕉

Photo: This is a painting, I believe, by an artist post the passage of Paramahamsadev from the earthly plane, perhaps decades after. The prostrate form is of Bhakta Rasik, the scavenger devotee of Si Ramakrishna who lived near the precincts of the Dakshineshwar Kali Temple, at whose house in the depths of the nightly hour the young Ramakrishna, then borne on the high current of spiritual fervour, surreptitiously stole into to clean up the latrine and wipe off the water sprayed with his long matted hair to do away with the least vestige of spiritual pride born of higher birth as a brāhman. This went on night after night till the young aspirant, now shorn of unevenness of bearing, stood tall on the golden mean of life where all rise and fall have resolved unto perennial equilibrium, the origin of life where coordinates have sunk into nothingness. The Master had arrived but the 'myathor' (sweeper) had not been redeemed as yet. Rasik, sweeping the temple precincts, observed devotees, mendicant monks, pilgrims and people of diverse persuasions vist the Master and seek his blessings. But he, low-born as he was in those days of caste-ridden consciousness, lowly employed as he was in those days of socially stratified vocations, dared not to seek the Master's divine grace till it fell upon him one fateful day, when the environs were free of human traffic that could intervene, to dive at those hallowed feet when the divine one was returning from his haunt in Panchavati. Instantly the young Avatar passed into ecstacy and blessed Rasik with prospective spiritual vision in the final hours of his life, a prophecy which came to fulfil as Rasik ascended the heavenly stairs with the Master, then long gone from his earthly abode, but in the vesper hour of his life right beside his bed. The first meet was here at Panchavati with the devotee at the feet of the Divine. The next was in perennial union of the twain in the twilight of the sweeper's life when earthly aught had all been swept away in one final grace of the One who never leaves His devotee alone, never, never forsakes the one who has surrendered at His feet as Rasik has here done. This divine moment has been captured in the artist's imagination thus and portrayed before us all as 'a thing of beauty' which 'is a joy forever.' Jai Ramakrishna! Jai Bhakta Rasik! 🕉

SWAMIJI AND NETAJI ... 1

SWAMIJI AND NETAJI ... 1

If ever there was a follower of Swamiji, it was Netaji. He carried out to the hilt every word of Swamiji within the tremendous constraints of his political life. Perhaps, he was not a Vedantist in the truest sense of the term but he surely was sort of a practical Vedantist by default, a patriot peerless and a moral man who could serve as inspiration for generations of lay people.

Netaji's love for the motherland was next to none. He approximated Swamiji in this respect, although their spheres of activity were in different planes, Swamiji working out India's overall destiny at the spiritual plane and Netaji shaping India's political destiny at the temporal plane. Both worked their hearts, minds and souls out to help recover India from her precipitated state. In the process both sacrificed their entire lives at the altar of the motherland's freedom.

Swamiji's was the Herculean task of singlehandedly discovering the essence of the Sanatan Dharma, translating it into simple, globally intelligible terms, yet rationally tenable in a world of emerging scepticism about things spiritual, and presenting it to the world with power and force so as not only to carry the day but to so alter the thought-current of the world as to significantly shift its basis from the material unto the spiritual, an achievement, if not so discernible now, which nonetheless will surely fructify in tangible terms in the long run, such was his prophetic power. How far he succeeded in his mission is for subtle eyes to detect, decipher and determine. Netaji's, on the other hand, was the seemingly impossible task of dislodging the entrenched imperial-colonial rule of Britain from India. How far Netaji succeeded in his mission is duly chronicled but scarce recognised. It is for his countrymen of head and heart alive to comprehend it.

COMMENTS GALORE ... 69

Sugata Bose @Jayanti Rakshit : Swamiji had said that the whole of India must follow one religion and that by implication is the Sanatan Dharma. That the Constitution deems it otherwise is a reality today with its perceived effects.

Sugata Bose @John Embrey : Swamiji included all dharma traditions including Jainism and Buddhism within the ambit of the Sanatan Dharma for they were all derived from the root which is the Sanatan Dharma. I, in agreement with Swamiji's view, therefore, do the same.

Sugata Bose @Sanjeev Shrivastava : You are highly humorous and inordinately creative in cracking your subtle jokes spread out in delectable diction.

Sugata Bose @Utpal Aich : Beautiful portrayal. So clear, so concise and, overall, so immensely moving. A worthy tribute to one of Bhārat Mātā's mightiest children, one of her dearest daughters. 🕉

Sugata Bose @Kapil Patil : So, what is your suggestion, your modus operandi for the protection of Hindus?

Sugata Bose @Jayanta Baksi : I am doing my utmost. You join hands. United we can achieve wonders. Propagate the message of Hindu regeneration boldly, vigorously. Study Ramakrishna-Vivekananda literature and spread the message. 🕉 Hindu!

Sugata Bose @Debaprasad Bhattacharya : They cannot if they are true Muslims. De-Arabisation would imply de-Islamisation as well. The two are intimately linked.

Sugata Bose @Santanu Sen : There is nothing called Sanātani Musalmān. Islam does not subscribe to it. It is a blatant lie being uttered in the name of either ignorance of Islam's tenets or by way of practising Al Taqqiah, the art of deception to hide inner impulse, motivation and movement in the direction of prospective Islamisation of the Dar-ul-Harb which Bharatvarsha patently is. If these Muslims are really sincere about their Sanatan roots, let them revert to the Sanatan Dharma instead of such verbal affirmation which at best is born out of ignorance of the core content of Islam or at worst the fraternal facade of the 'faithful' who are by scriptural injunction forbidden to associate with the kafir among which the Hindu tops the list of the ones to be loathed. 🕉 Hindu!

Sugata Bose @Debaprasad Bhattacharya : Politicians are selling the country, o5ur beloved motherland, to alien intrusion. It then becomes bounden on us to resist this perfidious programme with all our might as Guru Gobind Singhji has taught us.

Sugata Bose @Swami Nikhileswarananda : Fight for the persecuted Bangladeshi Hindus. Maharaj, preach in a more manly manner that the audience gets a glimpse of Swamiji in his words given utterance by your holiness. 🕉 Hindu!

Sugata Bose @Yogasharan V S Prakash : The one who knows how to give a full stop at the right place without making undue spatial allowance for the respiration of words and terminates a sentence duly knows how to be grammatically correct fully.

Sugata Bose @Akhil Ray : Copy pasted my post straight from my profile without acknowledgement? You could have shared it instead.

Sugata Bose @Prakash Gupta But Islam is dreadfully spreading elsewhere, especially in India where politicians are actively helping in its proliferation. Demography is altering alarmingly in provincial pockets and precipitating the same situation as existed in undivided India exactly a century ago with Bengal and Kerala leading the charge. History is repeating itself amidst apparently altered circumstance but with the same ideological toxicity that is yet again taking its vicious turn following original principles. Perfidy is now the protected child of medieval moorings. Will India live? With Sanatan civilisation survive? 🕉 Hindu!

Sugata Bose @DrMrityunjoy Mahato Not at all. Every Hindu must be raised to brāhmanhood, so said Swamiji. He averred along the line of the great Acharya Shankar that Brāhmanhood is the ideal of the race. The shudra is to be raised unto the spiritual plane of the brāhman and not the other way round which is now being attempted, that of degrading the brāhman perforce to the level of the shudra. The Varnāshram Dharma has been affirmed by no less an authority than Bhagavān Shree Krishna in the Shrimadbhagavadgeetā. All our Avatārs and Āchārya have accepted heartily this ancient system of societal material-spiritual functioning whose aim and end is to raise 'the animal unto man and man unto God' (Vivekananda). Hence, it is puerile to pass such a judgment against brāhmanism which is the crest-jewel of our civilisation. Privilege must be rooted out and it has been Constitutionally done since 26 January, 1950. Its due implementation will create the perfect platform for the best furtherance of this evolutionary culture, that of raising all Sanātanis to brāhmanhood gradually. This is the aim worldwide unknowingly and it must be done knowingly here in India with greater emphasis and awareness.

As regards jihād, it is core concept of Islam right since its inception in the Madināh warfare. Since it is central and foundational to Islam, having been corroborated by its key scriptural trinity of texts, the Qur'an, the Hadees and the Sira, it cannot be done away with. At best the emphasis may be changed from external jihād to internal jihād. But that as of now in the current geopolitical situation is a far cry. Through all these complexities, the dialectics of duality, the world evolves. 🕉

Sugata Bose @Nilmoni Mondal : It was Swami Vivekananda who had said that Hindus must turn to non-vegetarianism en masse to regain  the warrior-spirit, the kshātravirya which has been largely lost owing to meek piety which to his mind in the commoner has been aided in its proliferation by vegetarian diet and the song and dance culture of a sensate type in the name of devotion and culture, weak literature, effeminate bearing and utter loss of manhood and shradhhā owing to absence of the ancient system of brahmacharya. Swamiji, though, did aver that the future of the world would see greater acceptance of the vegetarian diet. These are contextual questions and must be duly comprehended instead of quick, shortsighted inference contradicting the great man's deeply thought out observations. Surface minds will ever seek commonplace references by way of content-contradiction instead of deep pondering over the utterances of the sages of yore and now to gain understanding of the civilisational issues in depth. 🕉

Sugata Bose @Abir : Now you are a certified Master. But to be a real Master great work is as yet ahead. And great work you will do to arrive duly at the Master state which is the endpoint of greatness. Blessings from Baba in advance. [Reference: On completion of course in Columbia and attaining to certified Master of Science state, the concerned post-graduate degree to the same tune.]

Sugata Bose @Kakali Roy Chowdhury : Bravo! Brilliant original observation.

Sugata Bose @Subhamoy Banerjee : We have to make this seemingly impossible thing possible. That should be our life's mission instead of lazily observing that we cannot achieve unity. Hard work, harder labour, strongest love will achieve wonders. 🕉 Hindu!

Sugata Bose @Subhamoy Banerjee : We have to undermine their ideological base systematically. They must be philosophically pulverised. For that we need to train Vedanta debaters well versed in the scriptures, erudite in Sanskrit lore and possessed of adequate command over the Sanskrit language itself. 🕉 Hindu!

Sugata Bose @Bikram Mookerjee : The Vedanta scriptures speak of what Brahman is not and not what Brahman is as such beyond hinting about It by some such words such as Sachchidānanda, for what Brahman is is not possible to speak of. Hence, Abrahma vichār.

Sugata Bose @Swapan Kumar Ghosh : '

Sugata Bose @Prakash Gupta : This was said by Tarek Fatah in relation to Pakistan, West and East. Was it not? This is so far as I know. If I am erring, I would like to be rectified and better informed. 🕉 Hindu! [Reference: That Pakistan was a huge land scam. Something to that effect.]

Sugata Bose @Debaprasad Bhattacharya : Kindly propagate Swamiji's virile messages of the defence of the Hindus. This point I raised before a venerable Swami of the Ramakrishna Order. I told him that he was too abstruse in his delineation of the Sanatan Dharma while talking about Swamiji, sort of self-brooding on the deeper aspects of the Vedanta while masses of our Hindu brethren in the absence of easy understanding of the scriptures and faced with a fusillade of Islamic (and Christian, which I failed to mention) proselytising tenets were getting converted by the day. Maharaj smiled and nodded assent saying that Vedanta was abstruse and had to be taught that way. I had two of my pupils with me who had been newly introduced to Swami Vivekananda and had accompanied me to see Maharaj in the hope that they would be told something about Swamiji which they would understand. But all that they were most reverentially treated to was a soliloquy of sagelike reflection on the Self which for the while did bring their attention to focus for sure but lent them no clue as to what Maharaj was saying. Swamiji had once remarked that his Master's method of communication in the colloquial way was his ideal of literary communication. Here Maharaj failed and here your abstruse posts also literally fail to drive home the message to the common Hindu that his life, property, culture, Dharma, civilisation and the very identity of his beloved motherland are in peril today. There are passages galore in Swamiji's Complete Works where direct and indirect references are made by the sage, pronouncements made by the prophet of the times as to how the Hindu may defend his Dharma. But everyday I see these high-flying Vedantic passages on the Ātman, Brahman and Māyā adorning your posts which render the Hindu readers further passive and defenceless in their induced ignorance, for the antibiotic will not cure common cold which needs rest and fluids for its removal from the affected system. In a like manner give us a daily dose of due medicine that will empower us to fight anti-Hindu elements which like the Kauravas are lined up to destroy us, or worse, like the invading Islamic hordes from Arabia. And these are plentifully available in 'The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda'. 🕉 Hindu!

Sugata Bose @Prakash Gupta :

Sugata Bose @Ujjal Kumar Ghosh : Correct appreciation of the post unlike advocacy of spiritual effeminacy which is more in vogue.

Sugata Bose @Kunal Bose : But there is a state transcending the twain of good and bad times, and that is the God-timelessness which is the state of the Self where perfect equilibrium obtains out of zeroing in of all phenomenal forces. 🕉

Sugata Bose @Debaprasad Bhattacharya : Please have a look at my Vivekananda posts on THE FUTURE OF INDIA replete with post-link of original text and links to earlier posts in the comment section. All attribution duly made and service rendered to readers for comprehensive following of the posts.

Sugata Bose @Snigdhodeb Sinha : Not only that. India, then steeped in tamas---a state from which she has hardly recovered, for it is a variant of that state which we are now experiencing---and in political bondage, had to be invigorated with the clarion call of karma.

Human civilisation is the resolution of jnāna (knowledge) and karma (labour). If India, precipitated as she was during Swamiji's times, had to be raised to occupy her due position in the comity of nations, her children would necessarily have to be inspired by the spiritual ideal of sacrificial work. To top it, as you duly said, the spiritual civilisation obtaining during Swamiji's times was at an ebb and it would be puerile to preach lofty jnāna yoga to the masses whose power of philosophical understanding had diminished by such a degree that pure thought would elude their intellectual grasp. Bhakti, thanks to the proliferated Vaishnava movement, they had enough, perhaps to a debilitating degree, which meant that karma was the great path as yet left to enthuse the masses to rise up and free the motherland from political and cultural bondage en route to attaining those higher attributes that would equip them to apprehend higher truths. 🕉

Sugata Bose @YouTube [Advaita Ashrama---Swami Shuddhidananda] : Maharaj, do not restrain yourself. Speak with unbridled power. Else, you will be ineffective in inspiring others. Courage of conviction is necessary, going beyond organisational interest. The spoken word in truth triumphs only when articulated dauntlessly, without compromising an iota to accommodate whatever there be that are impediments to its expression. Sri Ramakrishna used to say,

"Shame, detestation, fear----

These three if there be,

Cipher are thy chances

To witness the Great Me."

🕉 Hindu!

Sugata Bose @Debaprasad Bhattacharya : No one is countering that organisational proposition. The point being highlighted here is this abject capitulation to authority which Swamiji never wanted as he had espoused in trumpet terms gradual democratisation of the Mission's system with increase in general education, a fact highlighted by Swami Nityaswarupananda who was highly critical thus of the reverse trend of increasing authoritarian control of the Order that has rendered the individual monk a passive supporter of every compromise that is being made in the name of the Holy Trinity while deviating from their pronounced principles like anything, justifying perhaps such deviation by citing practical considerations which are inconsistent with ground reality as every bold and perceptive observer will testify to. But it needs honesty, sincerity, courage of conviction and character to say so. Those that will do so today will face the due consequences and so maintain their silence while sycophantic devotees galore keep supporting every deviation from original principles as gospel governance of a god who has changed his own stance to suit material convenience, thereby rendering a spiritual order material to a mindless degree. 🕉 Hindu!

Sugata Bose @Partha Pratim Adhikary : Read Sri Aurobind's 'Life Divine'. Read the nine volumes of 'The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda' completely. Then yourself compare and contrast. As a starter read the following:

Sugata Bose @Swami Nikhileswarananda : 'Our humble salutations to Swami Subodhanandaji Maharaj on his birth-tithi.' Maharaj, pardon me for this intrusion of presenting before you the properly punctuated version of your valued post.

Sugata Bose @Swami Nikhileswarananda : 'Our humble salutations to Swami Subodhanandaji Maharaj on his birth-tithi.' Maharaj, pardon me for this intrusion of presenting before you the properly punctuated version of your valued post. You have partially rectified your post, that at its start, but not done so at its end. Kindly see. Pranām. 🕉

Sugata Bose @YouTube [Sange Tamnoy-- Video on Suchirra Sen] : Over-secrecy is unspiritual. The desire to hide is one of the eight fetters that binds a soul to material bondage which is why Swami Vivekananda had remarked that Pavhari Baba who remained hidden in a hole in the ground was perhaps not yet a realised soul then, that is, at the time of Swamiji's first visit to Ghazipur when he had even sought spiritual initiation to study Hathayoga with the secretive sadhu. In Suchitra Sen's case as well this over-secrecy almost amounting to a disease was a sign of material bondage rather than spiritual liberation. 🕉

2. Why do nuns and monks post their photographs on Facebook? Isn't such self-advertisement antithetical to the introspective spiritual life?

4. Hindus will have to turn non-vegetarian more or less universally if they are to effectively combat the anti-Hindu forces.

5. Persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh continues. Hindus here in India, especially West Bengal, must protest. Our support will lend solidarity to the movement for protection of Hindu rights in Bangladesh where state repression is often used under fanciful pretexts to obliterate the Hindus. 1.31 crore Hindu brethren of ours are suffering persecution in Bangladesh which was once our beloved Bharatvarsha. These persecuted ones are the children of Eternal India, although now partitioned and rechristened Bangladesh post 1971. It is their birthright to stay in their motherland and not suffer eviction from there just because they are not Muslims. Such intolerance must not be tolerated by us, we who form the largest body of Hindus in the world. We must respond to this appalling situation of our kith and kin in Bangladesh as Swamiji has exhorted us to do. He has said that the pain of every Hindu anywhere in the world must be palpably felt by every Hindu across the world. Only then may one be called a Hindu. Thus, it is our sacred task to do everything we can to lend solidarity and support to our suffering brethren in Bangladesh. 🕉 Hindu!

47. Delivered in 2021, October, after the dastardly attack by Muslim fundamentalists on innocent Hindus on a massive scale throughout Bangladesh, murdering, molesting, looting, rampaging temples, burning houses, evicting the Hindus from their hearth and home, and all this on a false alarm maliciously raised and falsely so that the Islamic holy book had been kept at the feet of Shree Hanumānji by the concerned temple authorities which the CCTV footage revealed had been enacted under prior instruction by the Muslim lad himself who had raised the alarm. What followed was mayhem, short of a genocide across Bangladesh, the destruction of the kāfir (infidel in the eyes of Islam) till the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasinā's effective administrative measures normalised the situation. Swāmi Purnātmānandaji was vocal at the Dhākeshwari teleconference and apprised the Prime Minister of the gravity of the situation and the imperative for the PM's immediate strongest possible intervention by way of protecting the persecuted Hindu community. Here again he hear him voicing his said concern. The human chain in peaceful protest that he organised in this regard is also worth mentioning. Mahāraj had issued a Press release in which he exhorted the attacked Hindus not to run away but to resist.

This Swami of much erudition and more transparency stands in the line of the illustrious monks of the Order who as yet have the courage of spiritual conviction to modestly criticise the decadence of the Order in specific areas. He stands tall still in sectarian, fundamentalist Bangladesh as the hope of the Hindus despite the Ramakrishna Mission's apparent silence over Islamic issues of anti-Hindu violence. 19 centres and 7 sub-centres of the Ramakrishna Mission are serving the people of Bangladesh under his principal guidance. We need to recognise Swami Purnātmānandaji's efforts and lend him solidarity and support so that the Hindus there know that they are not alone but are flesh and blood of the vast Hindu samāj stretching the limits of the globe. 🕉 Hindu!

50. West Bengali Hindus ought to learn from Bangladeshi Hindus how to put up manful resistance to progressive Islamisation.

53. A word given is a word kept unless course-correction requires otherwise. Such is the predicament of maintaining truth. The goal of Truth is to be attained and it may in this contaminated age be duly done by strictest adherence to truth. Under no circumstance must a loose promise be made that cannot be fulfilled under the pressure of circumstance, a loose word given that will sure misfire if kept or will be impossible to follow up on if situation becomes inharmonious. Thus, restraint of speech is an imperative in the spiritual path without which life falls apart.

57. It is curious that TV news channels keep harping on how we must be an inclusive society and then they flash a news item, claiming it as exclusive to the channel. Lovely contradiction!

58. "Accumulate power in silence." So said Swamiji and this I can testify having seen in life quite often among monastics of the Ramakrishna Order. He who I have seen a stray straw tossing on the river of life in early youth matured in time to become a mighty ocean liner afloat on the sea, carrying thousands in its care. Gradual growth is ever the way.

59. Defend the Dharma.

60. Bharatvarsha existed ages before 15 August, 1947, a civilisational Rāshtra founded on the Sanatan Dharma.

61. I do not need the certificate of savants to prove to me the divinity of Sri Ramakrishna. My experience is proof enough.

63. Words must be spoken out of deep conviction. They must be the outpouring of a soul who feels intensely the import of what he says.

64. Cow-slaughter must stop.

67. Sri Ramakrishna is the summation and resolution of all deities. Hence, in worshipping him you worship all.

70. Do not be deluded by those pundits who say that Hindus are safe in India. Hindus are on the verge of subjugation by proliferating Islam unless effective steps are taken to combat the perfidious forces that are intent on Ghazwa-e-Hind. India is Dar-ul-Harb in the eyes of Islam and under war from Islamists who must under scriptural sanction transform her to Dar-ul-lslam. This is the civilisational threat we face today whose historical instance we have already witnessed to our Hindu horror in the bloody Partition of undivided India. History repeats itself but the wary do not allow it. Our vigilance and valour today can prevent its recurrence.

71. I hate this commercialisation of culture where advertisement rules the roost everywhere. It is detestable, to say the least.

76. ISKCON preaches to me their brand of exclusive Krishna consciousness and I preach to ISKCON all-embracing Ramakrishna consciousness.

77. Facebook has become a platform for self-publicity. That is the poverty of the people who need public adulation for self-sustenance.

79. We are so often blinded by the personality that the principle evades us. This must not be. The personality is the fulfilment of the principle, the principle remaining its essence that sustains it. Thus, a harmonic whole of personality and principle must animate our vision, a synthesis that in its complementary completeness will lend spiritual substance to our earnest aspiration for freedom which is the goal of life.

80. One schedule is life and the other schedule death. In between is the oscillation. Freedom lies beyond the twain.

81. Losster going, winter coming. Give a farewell to the departing guest and welcome the guest arriving.

82.

On 23 December every year the Government of India ought to honour Rash Behari Bose and Basanta Biswas for bombing Lord Hardinge on his elephant seat. That was a decisive moment of the unseating of the British Crown when its Viceroy got unseated from his elephant and fell injured seriously to the Crown's perfect corrosion.

83. In this commercial age the world has become a fake stage.

84. Witnessing how fanatical Muslims are persecuting Bangladeshi Hindus, can Hindus here still entertain their rosy ideas about Islam?

87. Hindus must learn to be aggressive in their ways and means when it comes to tackling their civilisational enemies who are bent upon their destruction as per their scriptural mandates. Meek protest will not do neither soft condemnation. These are deemed signs of cowardice by perfidious proselytising cults whose only medicine is aggressive action by way of defence which the enemy understands and fearfully respects. Hindu children should be raised from childhood in a manly manner so that effeminacy in them is rooted out. In this regard it is worth recording here what Swamiji had said. His words are as follows:

The above passage and two appended photographs will attest to Swamiji's views on this aspect of individual and collective behaviour of the Hindus which he deemed imperative for the civilisational survival of Hindu Bharatvarsha.

89. Manhood, the central message of Swamiji.

91. The early chirp is the bird-chant. They all take the name of the Lord.

92. The love of life is the kiss of death, the kiss of death immortality where death be of desire that holds and breaks the fragile form of life each moment.

MY TRIBUTE TO A NEAR-NONAGENARIAN, Satyanand Bhattacharjee, FOR HIS UPRIGHT MORAL STANCE WHICH I DEEM EXEMPLARY IN AN AGE OF ABIDING DECADENCE

MY TRIBUTE TO A NEAR-NONAGENARIAN, Satyanand Bhattacharjee, FOR HIS UPRIGHT MORAL STANCE WHICH I DEEM EXEMPLARY IN AN AGE OF ABIDING DECADENCE

@Satyanand Bhattacharjee (ex-IIT Kharagpur Professor, my Facebook friend of 89 years and going strong) : A near-nonagenarian's appreciation is most valuable and most valued by this writer of incessant attempts to awaken sleeping society. That those of the younger generation are of lesser mettle is proved by their passivity in response which does not augur well for the future of our polity. Accept my reverential pranam, dear Sir of much experience, more ethical substance than younger people today can conceive of or bear. A revival of morality in both private and public life, greater decency, better discretion and higher aspiration is the imperative of the hour if our nation is to progress to the millennium of the idle imaginings of our Central leadership.

An ignorant society does not make for Vishvaguru, nor does vain posturing before the camera to the delight of multitudes of fools, the easy prey of these political predators. Nor is the ordinary citizen/citizeness of much mettle. They have become self-indulgent men and women of no consequence, perhaps the inevitable result of demographic transition in this fake commercial age of consumer necessity induced by crafty advertising and the mass media's subtle control of public consciousness. Even spiritual organisations of erstwhile highest repute---leave aside pseudogurus and their ashramic accumulation of the copper coin---have become terribly compromised with wealth-gathering in the name of raising funds for philanthropic activity which though conducted is not commensurate with the amount of funds raised. These spiritual houses---I call them houses, after business houses, for they so resemble them in their corporatisation of activity---are more material than spiritual and they utilise public sympathy gained over earlier decades of genuine charity when their wherewithal was low, and they sell their gained goodwill for gold, a metal in emphatic terms renounced by the peerless Paramahamsa of Dakshineshwar. Indeed, 'dharmaglāni' (the decline of virtue) has become so apparent now that its symptoms have now manifested as disease proper. In these terrible times when even monk loses the contemplative bearing to self-advertisement and the seeking of crass copper, when his flattery of crooked politicians to gain grant and other facilities for conducting welfare programmes of much benefit to society, while otherwise maintaining a convenient apolitical status to avoid involvement in issues that are eating into the vitals of our society, you with your moral bearing stand out as exemplary before younger folks who have sold soul to convenience, commerce, self-interest and plain worldliness which is evident everyday in their attitude online, myself not privy to mass-contact otherwise. My salutations to your generation of receding numbers and sublime evenglow even as I gain inspiration from their association, albeit at an unbridgeable virtual distance. Stay healthy and happy, Sir, and in the God who animates man as His highest living temple. 🕉

ARISE, O LION !

ARISE, O LION !

Keep your spine erect and walk through life like a lion that has broken through the meshes of Maya and has emerged free in the open spaces of undying existence. You are immortal, blissfully free. Do not indulge in petty dreams that are smashed no sooner than they are conceived, stillborn offspring of the mind of indeterminate nature. Rise above these into the ionian sky of higher power which renounced leads to perfection in freedom that is never lost, repose that is never disturbed, security in the Self that is never snatched away by the mischievous manoeuvring of Maya. Live no more a slave to instincts and impulses, reason and its pitfalls, but rise above all these into self-contemplation transcending the body till you clearly perceive that this outer instrument is but an apparel of the soul which in transmigratory phenomenal whirl you are wearing now, casting it off when its hour is done, then rewearing a fresher apparel to do business in life before the vanity of phenomenal existence is seen through once and for all and you emerge free, shorn of all such earthly appendage. Meditate on the ephemeral nature of temporal existence and seek refuge in Thakur who is the primal mate, the final friend and the abode of infinite bliss and 'peace which passeth understanding'. 🕉

THOSE DIVINITIES OF DAKSHINESHWAR---DAKSHINESHWAR ... 1 PURNACHANDRA GHOSH ... 1

THOSE DIVINITIES OF
DAKSHINESHWAR ... 1

PURNACHANDRA GHOSH ... 1

Purnachandra Ghosh was one of the six direct disciples of Sri Ramakrishna who were deemed 'Ishvarkoti' (Godlike souls free of the fetters of Maya) by the Master himself. Narendra (Vivekananda), Rakhal (Brahmananda), Baburam (Premananda), Yogin (Yogananda) and Niranjan (Niranjanananda) were the other five. Purna's spiritual altitude was just below Narenda's, the Master averred. He was a fractional incarnation of Vishnu and was thus possessed of pronounced spiritual propensities of the devotion-kind.

Born in late 1871 or early 1872 (exact date not known) into an aristocratic family of North Calcutta to Rai Bahadur Dinanath Ghosh and Krishnamanini Devi, Purnachandra was barely thirteen when he met Sri Ramakrishna for the first time at Dakshineshwar.

Purna was a student of the Metropolitan Institution, Shyambazar branch, founded by Vidyasagar, where M (Mahendranath Gupta, the chronicler of 'The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna') was the Headmaster. M who came to be mischievously called by the North Calcuttans 'ছেলেধরা মাস্টার' ('The kidnapper of boys' in literal terms but never actually so, for he was thus named on account of his taking quite a few of his students to the hallowed feet of Sri Ramakrishna), detected the spiritual fire burning within the boy Purna and decided to take him to Dakshineshwar.

Thus, on a fateful day sometime in March or thereafter in 1885, the two, preceptor and pupil, left for Dakshineshwar during school hours, undetected by Purna's family.

The Master received Purna as his own, intimate, inner-circle devotee, the last of the kind who were to arrive as foretold by the Divine Mother. With the arrival of Purna which literally means 'full', the Master's intimate circle of devotees became full. Now none of such exalted spiritual potential were to arrive anymore. M and Purna returned before school hours were over. The clandestine meet of divine lovers was over this first time but the thirst for it now grew ever after. Sri Ramakrishna became restless to meet his young devotee and Purna yearned for his Master's company no less, M remaining the go-between.

Long, long back Ramakrishna, then freshly returned to the world of men from his spiritual austerities of a decade, used to send forth lamentations from the rooftop of the Dakshineshwar Kuthibari, "ওরে তোরা কে কোথায় আছিস ? ("O, where are you, my children? Come fast. I can scarce bear it anymore.")

COMMENTS GALORE ... 68

Sugata Bose @Satyanand Bhattacharjee : May I suggest in all humility a full stop to end your sentence? Pranām.

Sugata Bose @Debaprasad Bhattacharya : Kindly give the full stop at the end of the extract unless of course in so doing you imply that Maya is endless (Anādi srishty, ananta srishty).

Sugata Bose @Suvadeep Sen : Well said. More such voices will rise as historical injustices are inevitably redressed. It must be and it will be. Each one. (Reference: Australian woman of supposedly aboriginal descent protesting against the historical injustices perpetrated by the British royalty against the aboriginals there. This protest by this solitary woman was staged in front of King Charles on his visit to his Australian colony in 2024.)

Sugata Bose @Karthikeyan Chidambaram Rambhatla : Hardly matters. She has raised an issue of British imperial barbarism that has not yet been redressed. Likewise, voices of protest will rise throughout the erstwhile colonised world as people everywhere through sufficient education and awareness become empowered. And this is the way to protest, in anguish and agony felt and lived, and not in terms of facts and figures well given but happy smiles and beggarlike suggestion of INR 1 that may be paid for the next two hundred years by the British Government by way of acknowledgement of the depredation of India by imperial-colonial Britain. For all her outburst, this lady has feeling which is the most essential component of character, self-dignity which makes her feel outraged and so vocal in her sudden public protest unlike Shashi Tharoor's oration which, though eloquent, persuasive, popular and gone viral, so much so as to persuade its immediate publishing in the form of a book in greater historical detail, nonetheless lacked the character, that searing passion that like the wounded tigress strikes back with vengeance and venom. Tharoor's seems an intellectual discourse that lacks the demand for justice in real terms as yet undelivered.

Sugata Bose @Karthikeyan Chidambaram Rambhatla : The German Government has apologised officially for Nazi war crimes, to put things into perspective, that is, if you can see the link or choose to do so. Individual agony seeks its vent thus and gives expression to larger conspiracies hatched in the past for which present dispensations must be brought to book in some sense or the other. Otherwise, the present perpetration of global hegemonistic military domination and destruction that the Anglo-American powers are engaging in will also gain legitimacy in due course as indeed it has got thus far owing to insufficient resistive voices raised and political-commercial complicity dictating discourse.

Sugata Bose @Prakash Gupta :

Sugata Bose @Satyanand Bhattacharjee : Yes, indeed. At near 90 your exertion in attempted perfection in execution is exemplary.

Sugata Bose @Student : I am anxious to get you a good result in the Boards but evidently you are not so bothered. Time is running out as well. Every passing day is one more day lost, never to return.

Sugata Bose @Subhrajyoti Bhowmick : That wealth was not well earned in the first place and was the handiwork of massive robbery, the exploitation of the labouring class. Hence, your observation regarding the redistribution of wealth is erroneous. It is the rightful returning of the fruit of labour of the working class to the working class. It is economic justice done. The violent method of doing so and its economic, social and political fallout are what concern discerning observers. History testifies to its disastrous outcome and forewarns us against making such movements in the future which thwart people of freedom, stifle creativity and generally make the masses unhappy in both the short and the long run, converting states into autocracies and reducing citizens to human beasts, automatons under command control.

Sugata Bose @Subrata Karar : To wield the sword is valour indeed but the Swamis must maintain body-fitness by controlling bodyweight so that they can wield the weapon well. The movements in the video are belaboured and unwieldy, not quite up to the mark for effective, swift sword-wielding.

Sugata Bose @Swami Nirbhayananda : Maharaj, start doing live videos on Facebook for a few minutes every day. It will inspire many. Even better, do it on YouTube.

Sugata Bose @Sulekha Basu : Superb presentation! What a delight in diction! And profound observation too, a blend of beauty, truth and welfare as is the ideal set out before the nation in 'Satyam! Shivam! Sundaram!' This I call originality lent expression to in lucid literary terms, yet pregnant with poetic possibilities of a fertile future that as yet lies in the land of dreams dreamt by visionary souls seeking the advent of the millennium which is ever elusive but cannot evade the touch of seers diving deep into the depths of times unborn. Yours is a talent that needs nurturing, a constant care through artful articulation from your side and enduring encouragement from responsive readers like so many that sure must be, amongst which I humbly count myself as one.

Sugata Bose @Priyadarshi Gupta : It is a time-consuming process just like the absorption of western science was in the initial stages of its introduction. But it is an imperative for our development as a nation along its age-old civilisational lines and, hence, despite difficulties must be forthwith implemented to reap its long-term benefits. A tree cannot stand without roots, neither can a nation without its own cultural moorings. The widespread study of Sanskrit was desired by none less than Swamiji and he has given his reasons for it. An excerpt from Swamiji's works is as follows:

THE FUTURE OF INDIA

https://www.ramakrishnavivekananda.info/vivekananda/volume_3/lectures_from_colombo_to_almora/the_future_of_india.htm

...My idea is first of all to bring out the gems of spirituality that are stored up in our books and in the possession of a few only, hidden, as it were, in monasteries and in forests — to bring them out; to bring the knowledge out of them, not only from the hands where it is hidden, but from the still more inaccessible chest, the language in which it is preserved, the incrustation of centuries of Sanskrit words. In one word, I want to make them popular. I want to bring out these ideas and let them be the common property of all, of every man in India, whether he knows the Sanskrit language or not. The great difficulty in the way is the Sanskrit language — the glorious language of ours; and this difficulty cannot be removed until — if it is possible — the whole of our nation are good Sanskrit scholars. You will understand the difficulty when I tell you that I have been studying this language all my life, and yet every new book is new to me. How much more difficult would it then be for people who never had time to study the language thoroughly! Therefore the ideas must be taught in the language of the people; at the same time, Sanskrit education must go on along with it, because the very sound of Sanskrit words gives a prestige and a power and a strength to the race. The attempts of the great Ramanuja and of Chaitanya and of Kabir to raise the lower classes of India show that marvellous results were attained during the lifetime of those great prophets; yet the later failures have to be explained, and cause shown why the effect of their teachings stopped almost within a century of the passing away of these great Masters. The secret is here. They raised the lower classes; they had all the wish that these should come up, but they did not apply their energies to the spreading of the Sanskrit language among the masses. Even the great Buddha made one false step when he stopped the Sanskrit language from being studied by the masses. He wanted rapid and immediate results, and translated and preached in the language of the day, Pâli. That was grand; he spoke in the language of the people, and the people understood him. That was great; it spread the ideas quickly and made them reach far and wide. But along with that, Sanskrit ought to have spread. Knowledge came, but the prestige was not there, culture was not there. It is culture that withstands shocks, not a simple mass of knowledge. You can put a mass of knowledge into the world, but that will not do it much good. There must come culture into the blood. We all know in modern times of nations which have masses of knowledge, but what of them? They are like tigers, they are like savages, because culture is not there. Knowledge is only skin-deep, as civilisation is, and a little scratch brings out the old savage. Such things happen; this is the danger. Teach the masses in the vernaculars, give them ideas; they will get information, but something more is necessary; give them culture. Until you give them that, there can be no permanence in the raised condition of the masses. There will be another caste created, having the advantage of the Sanskrit language, which will quickly get above the rest and rule them all the same. The only safety, I tell you men who belong to the lower castes, the only way to raise your condition is to study Sanskrit, and this fighting and writing and frothing against the higher castes is in vain, it does no good, and it creates fight and quarrel, and this race, unfortunately already divided, is going to be divided more and more. The only way to bring about the levelling of caste is to appropriate the culture, the education which is the strength of the higher castes. That done, you have what you want...]

Sugata Bose @Amlan Kusum Ghosh: You are a person of seminal contributions to society in the cultural context and deserve every praise and accolade for such, every bit of inspiration that can elicit as yet the best out of you. Good wishes for your present and prospective ventures. 🕉

Sugata Bose @Biswadip Biswas : Western influence of a cultural degenerate sensate type we have injected in our system and through crass commercialisation are doing so every hour which is debilitating us characterwise, and this has to be effectively countered. But who will do so when most are blissful participants in this decadent drama of national debilitation?

Sugata Bose @Soham Sultania : Happy birthday, Soham! [29.10.2024] As you step into your sixteenth year, having completed fifteen, may Swamiji inspire you to scale heights of spiritual and material glory through hard work, discipline, health and happiness and that vanishing trait which our scriptures call Shraddhā! Jai Swamiji! 🕉

Sugata Bose @Sanjeev Shrivastava : The roots are nourished by our Government and the shoots merely pruned, that too ineffectively, in this 'fight' against doctrinaire evil. Why should 'Z plus' protected politicians care after all? It is commoners that get killed while the crafty ones at the helm of affairs secure their political prospects through little or no work at all to root out this menace from the country. Madrassās where jihād as main course is taught continue to flourish and multiply by the day. Pupils with minds perverted by such toxic teaching come out of these institutions spewing venom and spitting fire against their very nation which through doctrine has now become estranged and is viewed as Dar-ul-Harb to be waged war against and converted to Dar-ul-lslam. Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband, the Islamic brain's trust of the subcontinent, flourishses in India and provides theological inspiration to the prospective transformation of Sanatan Bharatvarsha to an Islamic state, this on the basis of the open statement by Maulānā Madani some time back. As you rightly said, it is a hundred-headed hydra or, as our scriptures have depicted, the Raktabeej whose every drop spilled gives rise to another demon. It is an onerous task that lies ahead of us as we have to grapple on every front with this advancing tide that threatens to destroy our beloved motherland. We have to fight Constitutionally, ideologically, culturally, spiritually, economically and demographically with this current of prospective perversion of our Punyabhumi Bhāratvarsha. 🕉

Sugata Bose @Ashok Shah : Do not mind the missing punctuation marks in the post, please. That is now the new normal, perhaps, not so new after all. The last sentence is ever endless. Its full stop is highly priced, so, unaffordable and cannot be given.

Sugata Bose @Arunangshu Mandal : Because their classical system is: 'Receive, then process; process, then pay.' But in today's instant processing by means of computer, this time-lag ought to be minimal and delivery instantaneous. So, your observation is absolutely pertinent. [Reference: Prepaid booking of railway ticket but delayed refund on cancellation.]

Sugata Bose @Prakash Gupta : In Akhanda Bharat Muslims, by dint of a relatively larger proportion than now in partitioned Bharat, will become far more dominant. The solution is the ideological victory of the Sanatan Dharma over Islam and the activation of dharmic principles in real lived terms which will induce Muslims to reconvert to the Sanatan Dharma, their forefathers' faith. Once this massive homecoming is achieved, Akhanda Bharat will be a spontaneous event and stably so. 🕉

Sugata Bose @Bandana Sarkar : When Jesus was born, the Jews were poor, oppressed and enslaved to Roman tyranny. Swami Someshwarananda has erred in calling them the richest community in the world then which the Hindus were along with possibly the Chinese. 🕉

Sugata Bose @Debaprasad Bhattacharya : Which means that today missionary organisations are more or less free of bhakti, they being the hub of moneymaking by selling goodwill earned over generations of genuine spiritual seeking. The Avatar's advent in that case is impending, to fill the chalice of the human heart so emptied of devotion, to drive the desire for dollar out of the perverted consciousness. The current scenario of preaching from the pulpit lofty principles while practising its opposite is then a hypocrisy that is supported and upheld by puerile followers of little understanding and poverty of personality or character, and must needs be replaced by a fresher fulfilment of the divine evolutionary mandate. 🕉 [Reference : 'Bhakti cannot be used to fulfil any desires, itself being the check to all desires.'

~Swami Vivekananda]

Sugata Bose @Debaprasad Bhattacharya : No, the present running after money at all costs is a degeneration that will have to be rectified in due course by monks of better morals. Course-correction done, the Order will, despite degeneration in relative terms, run for why 1500 years? for thousands of years more as an inconsequentially consequential body doing good work while making a mockery of original ideals. Swami Vijnanananda was categorical in setting things into perspective by stating that Thakur's mission would fail the first time in achieving things majorly and that only the foundation would be laid this time whereupon the next mission would really achieve what this one would fail to do? And why must the Mission hide behind Swamiji's reported statement from disciple-source of 1500 years et al when it is patently indulging in pecuniary pursuit of a perverse kind? Can't the devotees, their blind, loyal supporters to their own detriment, see it square in the face?

P.S. Regarding completion of the Avatar's mission, this Mission has only very partially achieved it. The next one will do the real work, so it is affirmed, as stated above, by Swami Vijnanananda as well. Thakur will freshly incarnate soon as per his prophecy and set things right in a newer dispensation. Can you not see with open eyes the terrible deviation of the Mission from the ideal about which in the 1980s Swami Nityaswarupanandaji had fumed and fretted and even went to the extent of writing his treatise in protest 'Back to Vivekananda', 200 copies of which were allegedly burnt by the Mission to prevent propagation of the pertinent points raised in it among the monks in general? What about the non-Hindu status claimed by the Mission legally to escape communist repression, a decision of Brahmajnanis which was to be overturned by the Supreme Court bench of three in 1995? Would Swamiji have corroborated such cowardly capitulation before communists? Was it in line with his teachings, his avowal that he was proud to be a Hindu? Now what is the Mission's stance, Hindu or non-Hindu by conviction and not by Supreme Court Judgement?
