CHASING THE MIRAGE IN THE DESERT-DREAM OF LIFE

CHASING THE MIRAGE IN THE DESERT-DREAM OF LIFE

Human infatuation with looks stems from one's identification with the body and the perpetual desire to preserve it. But the ravages of time inexorably work on the system and erode it till death relieves one of one's earthly physical form. The goal of human life is God-realisation which is the antithesis of this attempt to preserve the physical self. Hence, all efforts at beautification of the body even at an advanced age, while serving to make one's appearance more presentable perhaps, is fundamentally flawed from the perspective of life's ultimate aim. One should not waste one's earthly hour chasing wild geese but should rather concentrate all one's energy in achieving this cherished end of life. Keeping on at the body inordinately, even when twilight sets in, is the bane of life itself and an expression of the utter absence of spiritual consciousness. While one is welcome to it and there ought not to be any bar to what one within legitimate limits does with one's self-pursuits, it is a missed chance, a golden opportunity wasted of realising one's true nature in one's frivolous pursuit of the ephemeral.
