ENEMY NUMBER ONE OF THE EMPIRE

ENEMY NUMBER ONE OF THE EMPIRE

The only one who dared launch a full-scale armed assault on the British. Fought the enemy with the enemy's weapon. It is a shame that as yet so many among the Indian intelligentsia and the Government of India feel diffident to blazon his deeds before the international community in much the same way they do for Mahatma Gandhi. This is because of Netaji's necessary connection with the Nazis and the Nippon, the nexus which the victorious Allied Powers even today view as nefarious. Shame indeed that the Government cannot openly advocate the cause of Netaji and his Indian National Army before the world in its bid to play passive before the mighty powers! When this stance changes, India's destiny will change with it. The Army will feel enthused and the polity will feel energised. Right now youthful enthusiasm is dampened by harping on the old note of non-violence. This stills the youth into passivity and injures national prospects. What we need is national self-respect born out of aggressive nationalism, harmonic and inclusive and not unduly divisive for securing petty political ends. The country needs to stand together and this will be best achieved by developing its economy and ensuring low wealth disparity between the rich and the poor. The military must be strengthened, the defence budget propped up, population checked and the nation must be taught Swamiji and Netaji to galvanise it into inspired action. May Netaji live in our hearts as a perennial source of inspiration and endeavour!
