THE SELF SUBLIME AND SINGULAR

Spirituality is the progressive awareness of the life beyond the senses till the phenomenal universe is transcended and the realisation of the Self attained. This Self is the Spirit where all else is matter, even mind which is subtle matter. Thus, to be spiritual is to be Self-conscious but it comes at the end of evolution and involution thereof when the vanity of this world has been given up as so much garbage that has stuck to the human soul through inconceivable delusion termed Maya. Then the Self stands in its own majesty, sublime, supreme, the One that has no second, the singularity whose plurality is a misnomer for in essence it never exists.

This Self is existence itself, consciousness itself and bliss itself and has no relativity attached to it. It is absolute and transcendent, having space, time and causality as its shadowy trinity with their relative proportions and mutually dependent extensions all of which vanish in a final act of illumination when the attributes sum up to the Void and sink in the abyss whence they had mysteriously once emerged.

This then is the sum and substance of spirituality in a nutshell and this the grand goal of all evolution and involution thereafter. This is the broad outline, the details filling in a myriad manner as per the divine dispensation which follows its own mysterious motivations subject to no natural law which after all is subject to the divine will. This spiritual scheme of things was discovered by the rishis of yore and recorded verbally at first and then in writing in what is termed the Vedas. As human society has moved on and civilisation come to grace mankind, this basic spiritual idea has gained momentum along divergent courses of the meandering river of life and from such flow has emerged the various disciplines of spiritual practice and the numerous approaches to the one essence, the Spirit underlying phenomena, the Self within man.
