SPIRITUAL IDEAS ... 5



1. This path leads to somewhere. Is it a destiny divine or is it a despicable death that awaits? Only advancement will tell. Charaiveti.

2. With every breath draw in divine grace in the form of the blessed mantra your spiritual master has impregnated your soul with.

3. The body develops into a rhythmic order as you chant regularly at the appointed hour which is your rendezvous with God.

4. None can force you to be bound nor can any force your freedom. Your fate is of your own making, your destiny lies in your own hands.

5. This declining culture in the Indian polity has to be arrested and the nation reset on its spiritual track. Else, disaster awaits us.

6. This ugly exhibition of wealth by the rich at weddings when half the nation is struggling for their daily bread is reprehensible.

7. I wish those who have risen to richness from erstwhile middle class status would remember not to waste wealth on fancy receptions.

8. The rich do not care for the poor or for the nation's larger interests. How long must the common man try to hang on to their help?

9. Mother Teresa refused her Nobel dinner and requested that the money be given her so that she could feed with it the poor of Kolkata.

10. Who is a celebrity after all that people run after them? Are they any different from their fans? Stop raising people up unduly.

12. How can you call yourself spiritually inclined in any way when you neglect human relations off and on as you please?

13. Must I be a hypocrite in my speech and demeanour in trying to pander to the vanities of the world? Never.

14. This world is  a house of cards crumbling all over and men are frantically trying to set it up. Alas, it is a futile attempt!

15. Observing the environment and reacting to overcome it --- this is civilisation. But there must be inspirational action as well.

16. You do not have to be born to exist. Birth springs from prior existence and not existence from terrestrial birth.

17. Wickedness must reap its own harvest. The seeds sown today will fructify tomorrow. Then there will no reprieve.

18. Desires strike at the root of divinity and obscure the vision of the Self. The way out is to cut at the root of desire and be free.

19. Chant your Ishtamantra incessantly. That is the way to God. But the chanting must be continuous like the unbroken flow of oil.

20. This life offers a dual deal, that of immortality and that of death. The intelligent accept the former while the dull go for death.

21. There is but one fruit of desire, a forest of such future fruition and endless misery in its wake. Right now is the time, break free.

22. The summit may appear far but is very much within the reach of persistent advancement over stretches of time by dint of discipline.

23. Right now there is relative peace on earth. Let us embark on our peace mission now to perpetuate peace before war thwarts it all.

24. There is a deal of difference between spirituality and religiosity. The former is non-physical while is the latter is largely so.

25. We must live up to our tradition of the 'sundaram' principle and get out of this culture of easy designing without expertise.

26. How we waste life's energy in fruitless argumentation! How we insult and get insulted in turn for we have forgotten our Self!

27. Even in destitution man clings to his false ego, such is the hold of Maya on the human soul. The beggar then beggars description as lines fail to define his vanity. It is such a strange thing that man suffers such ignominy at the hands of his fellow men who he considers his own, yet, he desperately clings to these very offenders of his chastity, of his culture, of his very essence in human refinement that battered is rendered coarse even unto the roughening of the senses sans the slightest trace of the sublimer aspects of life and living.

28. Bhakti, anurakti, Adishakti.

29. We as a people must stop being shallow in our tastes and preferences if we truly claim to be a spiritual lot.

30. Liking a post for the sake of the attached photo without even bothering to read its content is not something that is admirable.

31. Till we manifest a modicum of originality in thinking, we cannot claim to be a developing nation, much less a developed one.

32. This balloon flies but we are grounded by our pettiness much in the reverse grain of our heritage which we hourly betray.

33. Facebbok offers a wonderful space for all to be journalists, critics and what not. Alas, if only there was a little depth to it all!

34. How lovely the photographs are that all give a 'like' to! Lovelier by far would they be if liked after reading the attached post.

35. When will we fly high on the wings of self-discovery? How long must we imitate others, debase ourselves and live like slaves?

36.  Sometimes I feel I am wasting my time making fruitless posts when all that interest people are good photographs of Thakur-Ma.

37. We have forgotten every lesson of Swamiji. Even the ones who are his professed followers have forsaken him largely. It is a shame.

38. We must go back to the source of Tahkur-Ma-Swamiji instead of depending on intermediaries for interpretation of their message.

39. Do not sell yourself to any supposed exalted being to seek your liberation. Your destiny lies in your own hands, shape it.

40. Follow the scriptures. What better a scripture to follow than the Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda? He is the world-teacher.

41. You must think for yourself. Never mind if your thoughts are unclear. Just start thinking this day and the morrow beckons you with high hope.

42. Every morning before bowing down to God, bow down to your own Self, for you are the highest God that ever was or can ever be.

43. Culture must be preserved and for that stop being mediocre and resist mediocrity of all sorts.

44. The current decline in culture has much to do with the cheap desire for name and fame masquerading as artistry.

45. Decades of toil, persistent practice at one's art makes one an adept in one's field and not casual flings to gain popularity.

46. Music is not a schoolboy joke that every pretender may attain to it. Talent, austere practice and discipleship are necessary.

52. The child must be the focus of elevated training in knowledge and humanity so that an enlightened citizenry emerges in the future.

57. We must not settle for passive piety but must actively support the Ramakrishna Mission in its welfare projects. Action is the key.

61. Swami Vivekananda was our first modern mass leader. He was the first one who exhorted us to work for the masses.

62. Swami Vivekananda's youngest brother, Bhupendranath Datta, was a professed communist. His middle brother, Mohendranath, was a yogi.

63. Religious conversion remains one of the nefarious practices humanity is subjected to even today and ought to be done away with.

64. Help another if you wish to, do not convert. Conversion is an offence against humanity and God. Stop it now.

65. To keep increasing in number and counting the days when domination by weight of numbers shall be is opposed to spirituality.

66. The numbers game is purely a political one and if any religion resorts to it, it will lead to a bloody fratricidal feud consuming all.

67. How can religions that convert people from other faiths ever speak of peace and tolerance? It is a complete farce.

68. Rare indeed is the son who fulfils the philanthropic wishes of his mother. Let us help such a one achieve his goal.

69. Our children must be taught to be active and their parents taught to think creatively to be able to guide them along to fulfilment.

70. He is the benefactor of mankind who serves his fellow-beings not from a pedestal above but as comrades-in-arms in a common struggle.

71. Swamiji was born on 12 January, 1863 and Masterda Surya Sen was hanged on 12 January, 1934. Our salutations to both these liberators.

72. He rose by dint of his merit and never at the expense of another. His was a supernal rise to eminence extraordinaire. Hail Swamiji!

73. Such a rounded being, such a harmonic personality, such a colossus in head and heart --- Swamiji defies description.

74. Who was Swamiji? He was 'Condensed Humanity'. By his being called 'Condensed India' this was also meant and a lot more.

75. Life becomes a misery the moment you are caught in its snares. It remains blissful so long as you steer clear of such pitfalls.

76. Non-violence must the basis of life if we deem ourselves civilised. Else, let us admit that we are barbarians.

77. The antidote to war is strength and it is the antidote to terrorism as well.

78. We have terribly failed Swamiji with our passive piety all this while. Now let us be up and doing.

79. The more there is debate and discussion about contentious issues in our country, the better it is from the democratic perspective.

80. Let the intellectual culture thrive. Let none feel throttled in self-expression. This is an imperative for our democratic success.

81. One hazards an opinion on a subject and another brings expertise to it. Let both have free-play for the thriving of knowledge.

82. A vibrant polity thrives on vibrant debate, discussion, deliberation and discourse. Let us encourage such a state in our country.

83. Swamiji was convinced that the Aryans were not migrants into India but that they were indigenous people.

84. How many of us care to study Sanskrit in depth before passing expert opinion on it? It is better to be erudite in it first.

85. Alas, would it were that I knew Sanskrit as well as I know English! What a difference it would have made to my life!

86. Alas, this queen of languages, the mother of so many of our major Indian languages, Sanskrit must be revived to its former glory!

87. There is a strange opposition amongst some to the national culture of Sanskrit. It is so detrimental to our developmental as a civilisation.

88. Swamiji had much emphasised the national culture of Sanskrit as the civilisational imperative for India.

89. Barely a few hours are left before the great moment dawns, the re-visitation of the birth of Narendranath Datta, the future Vivekananda.

90. There is great cause for hope that so many of the youth are awaking to the message of Swamiji just as we did in our times.

91. Swamiji's message may be encapsulated in just two words of his, renunciation and service.

92. Divinity is implicit in every being. The problem facing the aspirant is the realisation of this great truth hidden in the cavity of the human heart.

93. RK Math is for monks but RK Mission is for both monks and lay devotees. Come, take your rightful place here and help build the movement.

94. Ramakrishna 1, Ramakrishna 2, Ramakrishna 3 --- the Holy Trinity of Thakur-Ma-Swamiji.

95. At Kashipur Ramakrishna entered the form of Narendranath as a subtle spiritual current. Thereafter, Swamiji was none other than Thakur.

96. Vivekananda was Ramakrishna reborn. And this the disciple disclosed obliquely to a lamenting lady in America during a class.

97. It is indeed true that much of what Swamiji preached in the West had already been articulated by his Master here in Kolkata.

98. Ramakrishna's reticence to academic learning is the classic illustration of the soul banking on fundamental experience to know.

99. The moment you have qualified a person, you have disqualified him, for you have lent limitation to the infinite being.

100. To finish well is as important as to begin well. But the intermediate duration must lend substance to the extremities.

101. Bold affirmative action programmes of social welfare must be undertaken by devotees instead of mere adherence to passive piety.

102. 'Mantraarurha Acharya' --- The preceptor is mounted on the mantra.

103. When a person is in distress, our dharma is to relieve him/her.

104. Character is the bedrock of spirituality. And purity is the basis of character.

105. Must we fail Vivekananda? Shall we not rise to the challenges of the times and bring forth Vivekananda solutions to them?

106. We are here millions of the children of Ramakrishna-Vivekananda to rebuild our motherland. This is our destiny.

107. Love your motherland as you love your mother even as the revolutionaries for freedom loved. Then will all health come to the nation.

108. We are hopelessly caught in the meshes of Maya. Now how to extricate ourselves?

109. Manifestation of power wastes it. Silent accumulation and conservation of power conquers the world in the fullness of time.

110. Religion is an old sectarian idea quite foreign to the Indian ethos. All that we ever had was dharma, quite distinct from religion.

111. Those who convert for the sake of love, do so to betray its very cause. Love cannot be thus held to ransom at any rate.

112. Let our language be robust. Let us not be effeminate as the popular music we are exposed to. Let us be men.

113. Feel the glory of being full-blooded men and women. Take possession of your selves and boldly assert your freedom. The world will yield.

114. Why follow heroes who are on-screen put-on personalities eating their fame out of your adulation? Become a hero yourself.

115. Do not surrender your independence to any. Rather, be independent of all that constitutes this terrestrial bondage.

116. Be your own Guru, be your own disciple, be responsible for what you are and what you will be.

117. The Geeta teaches intense activity with absolute detachment. Activity is in Nature, detachment is in the Self.

118. This Atman is Brahman. This is the equation of the Upanishads.

119. Man in vain seeks God everywhere when He is hidden in the cavity of the heart. Dive deep, said Thakur, to realise Him.
