PEACE, A DISTANT DREAM

Given the incongruities that exist in the world and the difference in the evolution of different segments of humanity, it seems peace is an absurd proposition and will not come into being in the foreseeable future unless a cataclysmic war forces upon humanity the peace post its near complete annihilation. The developing environmental hazard which threatens to extinguish human civilisation may be, though, the reason why humanity may at last come together out of the common interest of survival, and conjointly fight to avert this global catastrophe. This collective action of nations may over decades develop into a cooperative culture and finally conquer the age-old habit of humanity to resolve issues through violent conflict. Thus, a new global civilisation may come into being where global interest will outweigh national or group interest and we may start afresh in the direction of harmony and peace. But will we ever achieve such a harmonious world order? Perhaps, yes, perhaps, no. Only time will tell. As of now, as nuclear proliferation seems to be unstoppable, the world careers to its precipitous end in a nuclear holocaust. Whither peace?
