VEDANTA, THE SOFTENED WAY TO SUIT POPULAR TASTES ?

VEDANTA, THE SOFTENED WAY TO SUIT POPULAR TASTES ?

This sort of spiritual teaching of the Vedanta in the West without corresponding emphasis laid on renunciation will never be productive of illumination, so to say.

Mere intellectual clarification is not what Vedanta is all about. It is the hard grind of 'neti, neti' [not, this, not this] discrimination founded on absolute continence and austerity of living, independent of the pleasures of life that constitutes the core of the spiritual seeker's journey towards the discovery of the absolute Truth, and this alone can in due course illumine. But emphasis is not being laid on it, it seems, at least what appears from the surface of things, and, if so, it surely is a major compromise that is being made to meet with the situational demands of the present day, and it is regrettable, to say the least. Such professing of the Vedanta will not conduce to its proper propagation.
