RASH BEHARI BOSE

RASH BEHARI BOSE

My prostrations before the radiant form of Rash Behari Bose, that gallant revolutionary whose labour of love for the motherland spanned two world wars and the inter-war years to usher in freedom. His engineering of the aborted Ghadar Revolution, the bombing of Lord Hardinge in 1912 that rocked the Empire, his daring escape to Japan in the guise of P.N.Tagore, his relentless efforts to secure the sympathies of Imperial Japan for the cause of India's independence, his founding of the Indian Independence League and the Indian National Army --- all these have made Rash Behari Bose the hero of epic proportions in the history of Inda's revolutionary struggle for freedom.

We have forgotten this redoubtable revolutionary and relegated him to a footnote in our memory as ungrateful we stand in the moonshine of an independence we scarce deserve. Let us redress this imbalance in our national life and take the opportunity today to pay our rightful homage to his hallowed memory as that other race of legendary patriotism, the Japanese, have ever done unto him.
