LEAVE THEM ALONE

LEAVE THEM ALONE

Tribal people have their own beautiful culture rolling down the ages. To teach them urban music of a decadent kind is an imposition even in the name of God. Leave them alone and let them flower as they have done thus far in the lap of Mother Nature. Only provide them with the modern facilities and education for better survival. The rest do not tamper with. The tribal culture is our last link to our ancient roots and provide living historical testimony to what we once were and how we as a species survived on a changing planet and, yet, held on to certain essential elements that have the distinguishing mark of man.

One more word. In the north-east of India Christian missionaries have successfully converted large chunks of the tribal population to their Semitic fold and, so, done irreparable harm to the free flow of this pristine culture. This must stop. The Government must take steps to protect tribal culture against all such aggression by proselytising faiths as it is detrimental to the spontaneous growth of these people to have some foreign indoctrination hold sway over them. Imposition of all sorts must be strictly avoided for these people are what may be termed 'endangered species' without going into the literal meaning of the word 'species'.

The tribal people are our nation's greatest assets. And why only our nation? They are the greatest heritage possessions of human civilisation and need all our help and protection to prevent their extinction as a distinctive population with umbilical links to its pregnant past. Let us celebrate our fraternal links with them by not intruding at all into their naturally evolved culture, by refraining from teaching them our 'superior culture' and by eschewing all imposition of city-bred synthetic culture on them. May the tribal gods and goddesses protect these innocent people from the ravages of our 'superior God', both religious and scientific, and may the followers of medieval religions, born and bred millenia after these people of the vast wilds held their own in a composite civilised manner, have the civility to refrain from barbaric conversion and decimation of the pristine culture of these wild flowers flourishing in the lap of the only mother they know, Nature!
