INSIGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS ... 2

1. A scowling face is not the sign of a virtuous man. The virtuous are ever cheerful.

2. Where there is good cheer, there good luck is. So, good luck to all. May it bring good cheer in its wake!

3. Ustad Abdul Karim Khan remains unsurpassed as a khayal singer simply in terms of aesthetic presentation of ragas.

4. Whosoever discovered tea was a great benefactor of mankind for the beverage simply invigorates a drooping soul. Thank you, my friend.

5. Is there a dream that permanently remains unfulfilled? Just hold your patience and persevere, and you will see its fruition.

6. Enough of nationalism and anti-nationalism. Give humanism of a variant hue a chance.

7. The world is rather poorly managed. A world government is necessary just as Einstein had suggested. Local cultures may still be preserved.

8. Our gods and goddesses are ideals to be attained through renunciation, not symbols to be used for gaining votes.

9. Children hold the key to humanity's future. Allow them to blossom in an atmosphere free of dogma.

10. S.N.Bose along with Einstein, Planck and Fermi formed the four pillars of modern physics. Yet, is there a single university in Bose's name?

11. The day we venerate knowledge as much as we venerate Mother Saraswati, that day will be an inflection point in our national life.

12. Our gods are beautiful representations of different ideals manifesting through the Cosmic Mind. Let us realise these ideals in our lives.

13. The spiritual culture of India God Himself has pledged to preserve. Let us be His helpmates.

14. Is there a temple more sanctified, a pilgrimage purer than the human heart where God Himself is enthroned?

15. Vishmadev Chatterjee's voice was Gandharvapratim (like that of a divine minstrel). It remains unsurpassed in richness of quality.

16. Man, thou seekest in vain outside thyself for that which is within thee.

17. Kesarbai Kerkar had reached the acme of excellence in the rendition of khayals and thungris. Listen to this virtuoso for your soul's fulfilment.

18. Why is it that we are unable to produce anymore musicians of the calibre of the past masters?

19. Is it the greed for gain that is eating into the vitals of the current crop of classical musicians and rendering their renditions hollow?

20. Forty years of taleem (training) before stepping on to the platform to perform was Ustad Badal Khan's prescription. Who's there today to lend an ear to this?

21. Letting the 'achhop' ragas sink into oblivion will be a grave cultural loss. Follow in the footsteps of Pt. Rajshekhar Mansur and revive them.

22. For mastery over the swaras the practice of Dhrupad is most efficacious. Alaap must be separately learnt and given a distinct treatment quite apart from its mere application in the vilambit khayal.

23. Thungri best suits the voice that is naturally modulated. The emotions are then projected best. Force does not become the voice well in rendering thungris.

24. The capricious nature of Maya can never be relied on and, hence, the safest course is to cut down desires and live as close as possible to the Self, dependent least on external assistance.
