KALPATARU DIVAS ... 1

KALPATARU DIVAS ... 1

The surface mind dictates desires and they come forth in prayerful way while the deeper mind broods on the imperatives of life and the world beyond. Thought and expression go hand in hand even as language and love, yet, the articulate and inarticulate phrases of the manifest mind play out their dual parts in frothy and limpid flow. The deeper aspects of his self man himself does not know. So, what he seeks is but the resolution of all the forces of his mind apparent to his cognitive faculties and does in no way exhaust the possibilities of his future craving, his sublimer aspirations, his impulse towards perfection in the desire-free state of being.

Kalpataru is the fabled wish-fulfilling tree, here in recent history manifested in the divine personality of Sri Ramakrishna on 1 January, 1886, months away from his departure from the world, when he assured his devotees of his divine protection from fear and ignorance with his singular benediction, ''Tomader chaitanya hok !'' ('' May you be all illumined !'') On this day the devotees assembled in the precincts of the Garden House at Cossipore, where the Master was being nursed during his final fateful illness, were off-hand blessed by the Lord in a fit of divine inspiration. It was late afternoon, sometime after three, and the dramatist devotee, Girish Chandra Ghosh, came along and fell prostrate before the Master who was feeling much better this day and was taking a stroll in the garden adjacent to the house.
