The disgust Swamiji felt at the inactivity of devotees then who could not or did not rise to his defence when he was being castigated by malefic adversaries as a cheat and a charlatan in a foreign land (USA), he would have felt even today to behold the utter lack of commitment of those that pay their reverence to his memory at the drop of a hat but are patently lazy and cannot quite bring themselves to any sort of active sacrificial participation in the cause espoused by him, for the mission he gave his life for.
I behold with horror the apathy of these affiliates to faith and wonder how much more of blood and toil of heroes is necessary to enliven these inert adherents to a semblance of animate activity for the cause. Vivekananda remains my hope still, for did he not say that the spiritual force that struck the shores of Belur Math would last 1500 years --- alternative account of Miss Josephine MacLeod is of 900 years --- and that the movement initiated by Sri Ramakrishna would go on unabated irrespective of human help? But is that reason enough for men who pride themselves in their manhood to adopt such a feeble stance of total passivity in terms of participation in the movement and, yet, go about saying how devoted they are to Thakur-Ma-Swamiji and how much they care for the Mission? I wonder. I seriously wonder.
