He sat gravely for a moment, thinking, and then resumed. "Besides," he said, "we shall otherwise decrease in numbers. When the Mohammedans first came, we are said — I think on the authority of Ferishta, the oldest Mohammedan historian — to have been six hundred millions of Hindus. Now we are about two hundred millions. And then every man going out of the Hindu pale is not only a man less, but an enemy the more.

"Again, the vast majority of Hindu perverts to Islam and Christianity are perverts by the sword, or the descendants of these. It would be obviously unfair to subject these to disabilities of any kind. As to the case of born aliens, did you say? Why, born aliens have been converted in the past by crowds, and the process is still going on."

বর্তমানে হিন্দুরা ধীরগতিতে ইসলাম ও খ্রীষ্টধর্মে বিবাহসূত্রে, হিন্দুধর্ম সম্বন্ধে মৌলভী ও পাদরীদের অপপ্রচারের দ্বারা বিভ্রান্ত হয়ে ও অভাবতাড়িত অবস্থায় অর্থের প্রলোভনে পড়ে ক্রমাগত ধর্মান্তরিত হয়ে চলেছে | এতে হিন্দুর সংখ্যা কমছে, মুসলমানের ও খ্রীষিটানের বাড়ছে | কিন্তু তার চেয়ে অনেক বেশি ভয়াবহ এই যে হিন্দুদের সন্তানাদি হওয়া ভীষণভাবে হ্রাস পেয়েছে | বর্তমানে ভারতে হিন্দুর জন্মের হার ১.৯ যা প্রতিস্থাপন হার ২.১৭এর ঢের নীচে | পক্ষান্তরে ভারতে মুসলমানের জন্মের হার বর্তমানে ২.৩৬ | খ্রীষ্টানদের ১.৪৪ এবং শিখদের ১.৬ | এতে স্পষ্ট বোঝা যাচ্ছে যে এক মুসলমানের সংখ্যাই বাড়ছে, বাকি সব ধর্মের মানুষদের কমছে | বিশেষতঃ শহুরে হিন্দুর জন্মের হার আরও নীচে | এখন তা ১.৫ | এমত অবস্থায় হিন্দুর ভবিষ্যৎ সঙ্কট সন্নিকটে | বিশেষতঃ সেই সব অঞ্চলে যা কিনা মুসলমান অধ্যুষিত |
