TRANSLATIONS DONE BY SUGATA BOSE OF BENGALI WRITERS OF EMINENCE

'পৃথিবীতে এমন দুটি ধর্ম আছে, যাদের অন্য সকল ধর্মের প্রতি সুস্পষ্ট শত্রুতা রয়েছে। এই দুটি হলো খ্রিস্টধর্ম ও ইসলাম। তারা শুধু নিজেদের ধর্ম পালন করেই সন্তুষ্ট নয়, বরং অন্য সকল ধর্মকে ধ্বংস করতে বদ্ধপরিকর। তাই তাদের সাথে শান্তি স্থাপনের একমাত্র উপায় হলো তাদের ধর্ম গ্রহণ করা।'

'On earth two such religions abide which bear clear enmity towards all other religions. These two are Christianity and Islam. They are not merely content with observing their own religions but are determined to destroy all other religions. So, the only way to settle peace with them is to embrace their religions.'

'কত বিপদ গিয়েছে। কই একত্র তো হইনি। বাহির থেকে যখন প্রথম আঘাত নিয়ে এল মহম্মদ ঘোরী, তখন হিন্দুরা সে আসন্ন বিপদের দিনেতেও তো একত্র হয়নি। তারপর যখন মন্দিরের পর মন্দির ভাঙতে লাগল, দেবমূর্তি চূর্ণ হতে লাগল, তখন তারা লড়েছে, মরেছে, খণ্ড খণ্ড ভাবে যুদ্ধ করে মরেছে। তখনও একত্র হতে পারল না। খণ্ডিত ছিলেম বলেই মেরেছে, যুগে যুগে এই প্রমাণ আমরা দিয়েছি। 

নবযুগ আসে বড়ো দুঃখের মধ্য দিয়ে। এত আঘাত এত অপমান বিধাতা আমাদের দিতেন না যদি এর প্রয়োজন না থাকত।'

'How many perils have passed! Wherefore? we did not unite. When from without Muhammad Ghori brought forth the first assault, the Hindus even in that hour of impending peril did not unite. Then when they started demolishing temple after temple, the idols of gods began to be smashed, then they fought, died, fought in fragmented units and died. Even then they could not unite. Because we were fragmented, so they killed us. Over the ages this is the testimony we have borne. 

The new age ever dawns amidst the greatest of griefs. Such injury, such insult Providence would have spared us were it not an imperative for us.'
