SATYAJIT RAY IS 100 TODAY

SATYAJIT RAY IS 100 TODAY

Satyajit Ray is 100 today. He was born on 2 May, 1921. The master filmmaker, India's pride, Bengal's glory, world cinema's adornment -- we bow down to his memory. From 'Pather Panchali' to 'Agantuk' ran the river of his fluid filmmaking and enthralled world audience, fetching him a continuous stream of international film awards ending with the Oscar and the posthumous Bharat Ratna which latter one was a shame, though, for genius insufficiently recongised and supported is a cultural crime of sorts. A versatile genius with talent ranging from filmmaking to music composition, story-writing to graphic designing, sketching for his own own films to inventing the script Ray Roman, Ray remains unsurpassed in Indian filmmaking and as one of the giants in world cinema alongside Kurosawa, Fellini, Renoir and the rest. Our humble prostrations at his feet in this auspicious hour of his centenary.
