Nobody dared defend India before the Western world like Swamiji did. Nearly all our great men before and after him were apologists on behalf of their culture. Some even made common cause with the aggressive West in criticising Hindu institutions and did disservice to the motherland, and these we honour as our great men. There was but one lion among these and he with trumpet voice upheld the traditions of age-old Hindu India, intrepid, uncompromising to the core. All others apologised in some way or the other to the marauding West as if they were ashamed to own up to their own civilisation fully. And that solitary lion was the spiritual son of the Avatar of the Age. He was Swami Vivekananda.
