ARE WE A COUNTRY OF FOOLS AFTER ALL?

ARE WE A COUNTRY OF FOOLS AFTER ALL?

Are we a country of fools as Carlyle had suggested England was when he famously made his mischievous remark, 'The population of England is twenty million, mostly fools'? Why is it that we have almost entirely lost our intellectual culture and all that abounds is a shallow exhibition of the worship of photographs to the exclusion of study of the content of a post? Why is that a vast majority are mere lip-service providers on posts and care not to reflect on its import and to acknowledge the same by way of a graceful and grateful comment? Has devotion to our greats eventually degenerated to such abysmal levels as makes a mockery of all that is glorious in our culture?

I feel an abhorrence even to pen these lines, my frame shaking with indignant emotion at the sheer frivolity of an entire population that is supposedly aspiring for the renaissance of our national culture. I, hence, leave it off here and allow the stage free for you to adequately respond, for my charges are levelled at you all.
