EPISTLES TO DISCIPLES:
DIVYA JALAN ... 1
LETTER 1:
Dear Divya, 16.10.2025
Happy birthday! This is the most glorious moment that arrives every year, that first moment of earthly arrival. Life, indeed, is a glorious opportunity for coming face to face with the Reality within, the Ātman that one essentially is, the surface cover of 'namarupa' (name and form) hiding deftly the Self within which lies as if in a divine sport to be duly discovered.
It is one's great fortune to be born a Hindu, to be born in Punyabhumi Bhāratvarsha and to be blessed with loving parents and amidst a modicum of fortune so that one is able to advance spiritually towards the ultimate goal of God-realisation. To be blessed with a Guru thereafter is even greater fortune. As the Vivekachudāmani of Ādi Shankarāchārya says,
"दुर्लभं त्रयमेवैतद्देवानुग्रहहेतुकम् ।
मनुष्यत्वं मुमुक्षुत्वं महापुरुषसंश्रयः ॥
Durlabhaṃ trayamevaitad devānugraha hetukam |
manuṣyatvaṃ mumukṣutvaṃ mahāpuruṣasaṃśrayaḥ ||"
"Three things are rarely received: a human birth, the longing for liberation and the association of a great soul."
Blessed was the moment, the day, when the first rays of stellar glow streamed into those infant eyes which thereafter have seen so much of life, yet the satiation seemingly never quite sees its end, for endless we are and infinite our craving. As Swamiji says, "The infinite dreamer dreaming finite dreams." Here spirituality comes of aid and with the Guru's guidance one is able to arrive eventually at the shore of blessedness, freedom and light. More of all these deliberations later. Now is the hour of rejoicing but in awareness of the One within that must never wane.
With blessings on your birthday and showering blessings on you and yours ever,
Gurudev
