The poor ego being built on an unreal assumption, it finds its sustenance only through a constancy of affirmation of its propositions by others. And when that does not happen, the ego is threatened by impending annihilation which it must resist as, it being the shadow of the ever-existent Atman, cannot allow its extinction. Hence, its retrograde self-defence in the form of a vile negation of others' divergent viewpoints and observed stances.
